Core Wing selects Cadence Tensilica Fusion F1 DSP for new highly integrated NB-IoT modem
After optimization by Tensilica Fusion F1 DSP, the code length of Huachang Technology’s NB-IoT protocol stack is reduced by 20%
Mobile World Congress 2018 - Shanghai, June 28, 2018 - Cadence Electronics (Cadence, Inc., NASDAQ: CDNS) today announced that Core Wing Information Technology has been authorized by Cadence® Tensilica® Fusion F1 DSP for its new Marconi X1 NB-IoT SoC. Core Wing Information Technology is a leading narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) company and provider of systems on chips (SoCs) and IoT solutions. As a single-core solution, Fusion F1 DSP can help customers reduce costs and shrink chip design area. The highly integrated core-wing Marconi X1 is the industry's first modem to adopt Huachang Technology's NB-IoT protocol stack and simultaneously integrate a CMOS power amplifier into a single chip. After Fusion F1 DSP optimizes the protocol stack, the code length is shortened by 20% compared with other processor architectures. The Marconi X1 modem solution is being showcased at the Mobile World Congress in Shanghai from June 27 to 29, 2018. Please visit booth P2.7 in Hall W5 for more information.
Marconi X1 NB-IoT modem SoC supports the NB-IoT global standard and is compatible with 3GPP version 13 and the latest version 14. It is suitable for smart cities, smart logistics, Industry 4.0, smart homes and wearable devices Multiple IoT application areas. Based on multiple patent-pending technologies, this highly integrated modem consists of power amplifier, RF, analog, power management unit, baseband and application processor; the product also supports ultra-low power operation with a smaller QFN48 package. The current consumption is less than 1uA in power saving mode (PSM). The fully programmable modem architecture allows the chip to support and implement multiple communication protocols including dedicated wireless network communication requirements.
Based on an efficient instruction set architecture tailored for communications, Fusion F1 DSP is an ideal choice for NB-IoT modem solutions. Designing and implementing modems on the Fusion F1 DSP simplifies product updates and upgrades while preparing to support future standards. Because Fusion F1 DSP is good at DSP operation and code load control, L1/L2/L3 can all be implemented on a single core, with lower power consumption and lower cost than other solutions.
"With the growth of NB-IoT applications from smart cities to industrial fields to wearable devices, customer demand for low power consumption, low cost and easy deployment has also increased," said Xiao Jianhong, CEO of Xinyi Information Technology. " Based on the Cadence Tensilica Fusion F1 DSP, our new Marconi " The software-based modem architecture allows us to run additional IoT applications directly on the device while supporting future upgrades and updates to the NB-IoT standard."
"We have been working in the field of protocol stack development for many years and have rich experience. Customers need our support and help when certifying modems in cellular carrier network environments," said Zhang Donghui, CTO of Huachang Technology. "We have extensive experience using Cadence Tensilica Fusion F1 DSP and serving Chinese customers to ensure their success. The highly optimized and proven NB-IoT L2/L3 software protocol stack can help customers of Marconi X1 modem shorten their products time to market."
"Based on a very high level of system integration, the Marconi X1 modem can facilitate the deployment of version 14 of the NB-IoT standard in a low-power and low-cost environment," said Gerard Andrews, marketing director of Tensilica product line at Cadence. "At the same time, Huachang Technology's proven L2/L3 software can ensure that end-user products are quickly brought to market. Fusion F1 DSP combines the powerful DSP instruction set and excellent control performance that ideal NB-IoT products must have, making this solution Become reality. "
