On January 23, OPPO held an award ceremony for the 2020 PDS 5G Antenna Joint Development Achievements. At the ceremony, OPPO Assistant Vice President Xu Ming personally awarded the "PDS 5G Antenna Joint Development Award" medal to Shenzhen Hydeman Electronics Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Hydeman") and presented Hydeman with a development reward of RMB 500,000.
After winning the award, Mr. Zhang Bin, Chairman of Hydeman, expressed his sincerest gratitude to OPPO, and also thanked OPPO colleagues for their support and care in terms of technology and management. "After ten years of hard work, PDS has achieved success and created value for customers," said Mr. Zhang Bin.
The reason for receiving this honor is that Hydeman provides 5G PDS antenna technology support for the entire OPPO Reno5 product series, which enables further optimization of 5G antenna technology in this series of models and a new upgrade of users' 5G experience.
Looking back, the arrival of the 5G era has made terminal products have higher and higher requirements for antenna technology. The traditional FPC antenna technology has problems such as unstable performance, poor fitting accuracy, and high labor consumption in assembly. It has gradually been unable to meet the needs of terminal brands and has become a major pain point for project expansion.
In order to find an antenna process solution with better performance, it is reported that since 2016, OPPO's relevant R&D team has reached a close cooperation with Hydeman and jointly established a PDS special project group and expert team.
According to Jiwei.com, the two companies have invested nearly 10 million yuan in research and development to conduct a comprehensive theoretical deduction and sample verification of the PDS process. From the characteristics of the printed silver paste used in the PDS process, the applicable new materials, printing process improvements, to antenna performance, process reliability, spraying effects, etc., it involves the development of antenna, materials, production, quality, and automated equipment processing, and continuous testing and verification.
During the joint development process, the two parties jointly overcame many technical barriers, developed a silver paste system and process conditions suitable for plastic mid-frames, and overcame a series of difficulties in the mobile phone antenna industry.
Facts have proved that Hydeman's PDS process can withstand scrutiny and testing. With the strong support of OPPO, a large number of single-machine and whole-machine experiments have been carried out, and continuous optimization and improvement have been carried out to develop an antenna process suitable for the current situation. It has been officially mass-produced since 2018, and multiple 5G projects have been rapidly scaled up in 2020.
During the production ramp-up of Reno5, Hydeman cooperated with OPPO to quickly expand production capacity. In just one month, the number of equipment increased from 150 to 410, the production capacity increased from 30K/day to 110K/day, and the number of production staff expanded from more than 100 to 600. A total of 1600K PDS finished products were delivered in the first month, and 2600K were delivered in the next month, 100% meeting OPPO's needs and ensuring the rapid expansion of the PDS process.
In terms of performance, OPPO worked with Hyndman antenna engineers to debug the antenna, and it took only two months to bring the antenna performance to a high level.
Compared with traditional processes, the PDS antenna solution not only greatly expands the space environment for 5G antenna deployment, effectively increases the antenna area, and meets the performance requirements of multiple 5G frequency bands, but also allows the antenna to be away from the complex electromagnetic environment inside the mobile phone, effectively improving the performance of the antenna in all aspects, and meeting the needs of smartphones for thinness and lightness, maximizing the antenna performance in a limited space.
It is worth noting that at the same time as the Reno5 series products were launched into mass production in December last year, five other projects also selected Hydeman’s PDS antenna technology.
