This may be the best automotive 48V power supply solution [Copy link]

 

Automotive OEMs are setting aggressive goals to electrify their fleets over the next 5-10 years. To do this, they need to overcome obstacles, not the least of which is how to deliver nearly 20 times the power of existing ICE vehicles (ICE) without taking up valuable packaging space and adding weight. They need to ensure that every EV is compatible with DC fast charging stations along highways to eliminate range anxiety. Thanks, but it's incredible that this power density can be achieved with a heat sink and a fan. I think the key is isolation.

98% efficiency is not the key point. It is very common to achieve this efficiency at a constant transformer ratio. The reasons for the high power density are:

1. High frequency, reducing the volume of magnetic components and capacitors, which depends on the material selection;

2. The main filter circuit is given to the user to add an external plug-in;

3. Solve the thermal resistance from the heat-generating device to the shell, and leave the environmental thermal resistance to the user to add plug-ins;

4. CHIP core control circuit

But if it is an application that runs at full power continuously, then I have done it!!!

Our module is encapsulated in an aluminum shell and is very large and thick. For the same power, VICOR needs to add a heat sink and a fan. The total volume is also similar!

You can imagine a computer CPU. The VICOR module is equivalent to the CPU. It can actually run without a heat sink and a fan, but the main frequency must be locked to the lowest. A power consumption of one or two watts is no problem, right?
