Exploring Power Efficiency and Robustness in Electronic Design
November 13, 2024 – Mouser Electronics, a leading New Product Introduction (NPI) distributor™ focused on driving innovation in the industry, has announced a new e-book in collaboration with Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI) that focuses on fundamental strategies for optimizing power systems. In the e-book, Powering the Future: Advanced Power Solutions for Efficiency and Robustness, subject matter experts from ADI and Mouser provide in-depth analysis of the key components, architectures, and applications in power systems.
Innovative designers and manufacturers in various industries are constantly developing new technologies to create a smarter, faster and more efficient life. Reliable and efficient power systems can not only help designers reduce solution size, cost and energy consumption, but also speed up the time to market.
In this eBook, topics include effectively managing electromagnetic interference (EMI), reducing equivalent series resistance (ESR) and equivalent series inductance (ESL) in switching power supplies, and managing power supply noise using voltage supervisors. Other topics include buck-boost circuits, enhancing system robustness using ideal diodes and e-fuses, and improving efficiency using gallium nitride (GaN) technology.
ADI has a long history in power management and offers customers a rich and diverse portfolio of solutions, many of which are highlighted in this book. The LT3046 linear regulator uses ADI's ultra-low noise and ultra-high power supply rejection ratio (PSRR) architecture to power noise-sensitive applications. The MAX16162 is an ultra-low current, single-channel supervisory IC that monitors the supply voltage, allowing the target microcontroller or microprocessor to exit reset and begin running.
The LTM8080 is an ultra-low noise, dual-output DC/DC μModule regulator with patented innovations in chip design, layout and packaging, designed to power digital loads susceptible to switching regulator noise, such as data converters, RF transmitters, FPGAs, operational amplifiers, transceivers and medical scanners. The LT8418 half-bridge GaN driver integrates top and bottom driver stages, driver logic control and protection functions, and can be configured as synchronous half-bridge, full-bridge topologies or buck, boost and buck-boost topologies. The LTC7890/1 synchronous buck controller is a high-performance DC-DC device that drives N-channel synchronous GaN field effect transistor (FET) power stages from an input voltage of up to 100V. These controllers address the challenges typically faced when using GaN FETs, simplifying application design compared to silicon metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistor (MOSFET) solutions, and eliminating the need for protection diodes and other additional external components.
