Wu Hequan, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, recently publicly stated that in the process of formulating 6G standards, we should pay attention to reasonable indicators that meet the basic needs of the public, rather than just focusing on those specific high-demand indicators.

"The design of 6G system protocols should focus on application scenarios that are not demanding but are crucial to improving the public experience. 6G network services are based on rigid demand, and reasonable standards need to be proposed for rigid demand applications. The high-standard niche needs of 6G can be addressed by deploying Wi-Fi/private networks and MEC," said Wu Hequan.

Looking back on the development history of mobile communication technology, Wu Hequan mentioned that from 1G to 4G, the development of mobile communication technology both originated from demand and guided demand, with relatively single goals and very successful development.

Wu Hequan also said bluntly: "In the 5G era, goals are diverse. A single network system and frequency band cannot adapt to multiple goals, and user experience has not met expectations. 6G has even more multi-dimensional goals. It is difficult for the rigid needs of the general public and the needs of the niche to be compatible on the same network architecture and frequency band."

Prior to this, Wu Hequan had publicly stated that the 5G dividend was not as expected. On the consumer side, although 5G's spectrum efficiency and unit energy efficiency are far superior to 4G, users can hardly perceive this advantage; the user traffic has doubled, but it has not been reflected in the operator's ARPU value.

"The downlink speed of 5G is 7 times that of 4G, and the uplink speed is less than 3 times. The gap between 5G and 4G has not yet widened. In general consumer application scenarios, users cannot experience the advantages of 5G. There are some applications on the market that require support from 5G features, but the 5G network capabilities are obviously insufficient." Wu Hequan said.
