Recently, Intel released the "2023-2024 Intel China Corporate Social Responsibility Report", showing its fruitful results in actively fulfilling its corporate social responsibility in China under the guidance of its "RISE" strategy of responsibility, inclusion, sustainability and empowerment and its 2030 goals. Intel has released its corporate social responsibility report in China for 18 consecutive years, demonstrating that as a leader in the global semiconductor industry and computing innovation, it is not only committed to promoting its own innovative development, but also deeply focusing on the local ecosystem, collaborating with local partners, and continuously contributing to the development of the industry and society.

The report mainly presents Intel's deep understanding and active practice of social responsibility from multiple aspects such as sustainable development, digital innovation, talent cultivation and volunteer service. For example:

  • 2023年在中国节水242.3亿加仑,在成都工厂节电 261万千瓦时,实现了范围2温室气体净零排放,节水节能成效显著。

"At Intel, we firmly believe that the power of technology can help improve the lives of more people and are committed to turning this belief into action," said Jiang Tao, Intel Vice President and Managing Director of Government Affairs in China. "Through joint efforts, Intel has made steady progress in fulfilling its corporate social responsibility over the past year and has made great progress in many areas. We will continue to work with all parties to move towards a better digital future through technological innovation and the expertise and enthusiasm of Intel employees."

Green action lights up the road to sustainability

Sustainable development has far-reaching significance for enterprises and society, not only in the present, but also in the long-term development of the future. Intel is well aware of this, and while its business continues to expand, it has always placed sustainable development in an important position, and with its strong execution capabilities, it has integrated its commitment to the environment into operations, volunteer activities and other aspects, and has made many substantial progress.

  • In terms of energy conservation, Intel's Chengdu factory implemented 14 energy-saving renovations in 2023 and continued to promote green electricity procurement, saving a total of 2.61 million kilowatt-hours of electricity and achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions (Scope 2), further moving towards the goal of net zero greenhouse gas emissions for global operations by 2040.

  • To achieve the goal of fully and effectively utilizing water resources, Intel continues to promote sustainable water resource management in China. As of 2023, Intel China has saved a total of 24.23 billion gallons of water.

  • Intel also actively supports employees and leads the public in voluntary actions to protect the ecological environment, such as the Yunqiao Wetland Environmental Protection Project, fruit orchard planting activities and community tree planting activities, and the Science and Technology and Environmental Protection Summer Campaign in the Community, which have mobilized more than 100,000 people to participate in and jointly create a green life.

At the same time, with the demand for computing power booming today, high energy efficiency and sustainable computing power growth have become the focus of the industry. Intel is not only driving the development of green computing with innovative products, but also working with the industry to move towards a sustainable future.

  • In addition, Intel also released a new generation of data center liquid cooling solution - G-Flow immersion liquid cooling, and launched the Intel China Data Center Liquid Cooling Innovation Acceleration Plan, using both technological innovation and industrial chain to accelerate the sustainable development of data centers.

  • Adhering to the green concept, Intel has not forgotten to cooperate with industry partners to launch green computers that meet the standards, and supports the implementation of the "Green Evaluation Specification for Desktop Microcomputers and All-in-One Computers (T/CIE 221-2024)" to create green new quality productivity tools and provide greener computing power support.

Intelligent empowerment to release the value of technology

Intel has always focused on unleashing its own resource advantages and technological strength to create value through practical actions. From organizing employee volunteers to serve community construction, to supporting the deep integration of education and technology, to assisting in rural revitalization strategies and other broad areas, Intel continues to empower positive social changes and promote technology for good.

  • Intel China employees have demonstrated their professional abilities and enthusiasm to actively participate in volunteer activities, contributing 75,694 hours of volunteer service in 2023, and donated more than 20 million yuan to the China Rural Development Foundation to give back to society.

  • As digital capabilities become a basic requirement for future talents, Intel has launched a digital capability training program to promote more comprehensive and broader digital capability building. As of the end of October 2023, the program has covered multiple fields such as basic education, vocational education, and higher education, and has taken root in universities, vocational colleges, and middle schools in 29 provinces and cities in China.

  • In order to reward outstanding students who have made outstanding achievements in the fields of information science and engineering technology and to encourage them to continue their exploration in the field, Intel launched the Intel Scholarship Program in 1993. To date, it has covered 10 universities including Tsinghua University, Peking University, and Shanghai Jiaotong University, and has successfully funded more than 1,000 outstanding students.

  • Intel also actively supports the rural revitalization strategy and promotes the balanced development of urban and rural education by providing financial and technical assistance. For example, at the "Technological Innovation to Promote Digital Transformation of Education" seminar held in September 2023, Intel and Seewo joined hands to donate smart classrooms to Wangmo County Experimental Senior High School. Since 2020, Intel China has donated digital teaching equipment such as smart electronic whiteboards, laptops and desktops to schools in Sichuan, Gansu, Yunnan and other places, with a total value of more than 6.7 million yuan.

Diversity and inclusion, expanding access to technology

Diversity and inclusion have always been Intel's core values and are essential to promoting technological innovation and achieving long-term business development. Adhering to the RISE strategy, Intel is integrating diversity and inclusion into corporate culture building, technological development, and employee support.

  • Intel is committed to further promoting technological inclusion and barrier-free use. In December 2023, in the Intel Artificial Intelligence Innovation Application Competition, a team from Intel developed a screen reading tool called "Listen" to meet the needs of visually impaired people using PCs, improving the multimedia information experience of visually impaired people.

  • In May 2024, Intel participated in the China Diversity Procurement Summit hosted by MSD CHINA, gathering together with many Fortune 500 companies and diverse suppliers to discuss a diverse, inclusive, and sustainable future. It won two major awards, the "Most Outstanding Contribution Award for Enterprises of the Year" and the "Cross-border Cooperation Experiment Award", demonstrating Intel's outstanding contribution to supplier diversity and inclusion.

  • Intel has long been focusing on the development of female employees and has made unremitting efforts to achieve the goal of 40% female technical staff by 2030. By 2023, Intel's recruitment rate in China will reach 45%, and women will account for more than 30% of technical positions. In addition, Intel has also carried out a variety of training and activities to broaden the path for female employees to realize their value, and hopes to accelerate the process of diversity and inclusion in the technology industry.

Leveraging responsibility to drive digital innovation

Technology is closely related to people's lives, and actively promoting responsible business practices has long been one of Intel's priorities. Intel is working with industry partners in sports, education, healthcare, transportation and other fields to promote digital innovation and build an open ecosystem, so that a wider range of people can enjoy the benefits of digital technology and provide momentum for the sustainable development of society and economy.

  • For example, in the field of sports, the vPro platform equipped with Intel® Core™ processors provides digital power for the Hangzhou Asian Games Science and Technology Guard; in the field of education, we work with East China Normal University to develop the OpenEdu4ALL large-scale model application platform, which efficiently runs integrated personalized learning and teaching functions, and provides assistance to areas with scarce educational resources.

  • At the same time, in order to build a more prosperous and open ecosystem, Intel has also conducted many explorations. For example, in 2023, Intel widely used open source technology internally and established the Intel China Open Source Technology Committee. Externally, Intel actively participated in the work of the open source community and contributed to more than 30 open source projects in China. In 2024, Intel also launched the global OpenVINO™ "Good First Issues" event to recruit more technology developers to promote open source and promote continuous innovation in digital technology.
