On November 13, SMG, a subsidiary of the Semiconductor Industry Association SEMI, released a new quarterly analysis report on silicon wafers in California, USA, yesterday. The report shows that global silicon wafer shipments in the third quarter of this year reached 3214 million square inches (MSI).

This scale is roughly equivalent to 28.42 million 12-inch (IT Home Note: 300mm) wafers, a year-on-year increase of 6.8% and a month-on-month increase of 5.9%.
Chongwei Li, Chairman of SEMI SMG and Vice President and Chief Auditor of GlobalWafers, said:
Wafer shipments in the third quarter continued the upward trend that began in the second quarter of this year. Inventory levels throughout the supply chain have declined, but remain high overall.
Demand for advanced silicon wafers used in AI remains strong; however, demand for silicon wafers for automotive and industrial uses continues to be sluggish; while demand for silicon wafers for mobile phones and other consumer products has improved.
Therefore, the upward trend may continue in 2025, but total shipments are not expected to return to the peak level of 2022.
