Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger still hopes to win back Apple as a customer, but believes that to do so, Intel's chips must be better than Apple's self-developed chips.
In an interview with Axios, a US news media, on Sunday, Kissinger said he did not blame Apple for abandoning Intel and developing its own chips. "Apple believes they can develop better chips than us," he said. "They do a good job. So what I have to do is develop better products than Apple's own chips. I hope to gradually win back Apple's business and many other businesses."
"In the meantime, I have to make sure our products are better than theirs, my ecosystem is more open and more vibrant than theirs, and we have to create a more attractive reason for developers and users to use Intel-based products," Kissinger said. "So, I have to work hard to win back Apple's business in this area."
However, he also pointed out that re-cooperation with Apple may take years. Another option for Apple is to use Intel's chip manufacturing facilities. Intel has produced chips for other companies such as Amazon and Qualcomm. Intel has been producing chips for Apple Mac since 2005, but Apple announced in 2020 that it would begin using self-developed chips to replace Intel processors on Mac computers, with a transition period of two years.
