Rumor has it that Apple is looking to reach a major deal with the NFL that would include online streaming rights, an NFL Sunday Ticket package, and a stake in NFL Media in an effort to boost Apple TV+'s programming content.
The NFL is fielding some key offers for broadcasters and streaming services interested in the deal, and in a report on Friday, Apple was identified as one of the companies vying to acquire them, but is hoping to do so in a single, combined deal.
According to sources at FrontOffice Sports, the NFL will offer three benefits, including a stake in NFL Media, as well as the NFL Sunday Ticket package and the right to stream games live on smartphones and tablets.
The report's source said Apple is not trying to make one or two deals, but is interested in an all-encompassing deal. "Apple is thinking very big. They want to bring all of this together into one big NFL package," the source said.
While the total value of the potential deal has not been reported, NFL Sunday Ticket alone could theoretically generate $2 billion to $2.5 billion in revenue for the league a year.
A potential deal between Apple and the NFL first surfaced in July 2021, as the NFL was looking for a new streaming partner due to the expiration of the DirecTV Sunday Ticket agreement after 2022. In September, the NFL seemed to prefer Apple to take over the package.
