In January, Sony confirmed that PSVR 2 is coming. During CES 2022, Sony showed off the device's Sense controller, a 2000x2040 pixel HDR OLED display for each eye, and optimized hardware. The four cameras on the helmet can track the player's space, no longer requiring external camera support, and the built-in haptic feedback function allows players to feel "the character's accelerating pulse in tense moments, the feeling of flying objects brushing the character's scalp, and the push of the vehicle when accelerating."

Now, according to Sony’s latest patent, this device has some very impressive features.

On Friday, Sony released a patent for "localizing tactile sensations through head-mounted devices", which achieves this effect based on the tactile sensors included in the helmet. The patent does not use PSVR 2 as an example, but uses the first generation PSVR product for introduction.

According to the patent description, these tactile sensors can be used to measure the relationship between the player's head and the object that makes the sound in the game. The distance between the player and the target, the frequency, and specific audio data will be used to determine how the tactile feedback will respond. Ideally, this technology will be able to simulate the feeling of wind passing through your hair when you explore a vast open world, etc.

Another recent patent filed by Sony suggests that the PSVR 2 will use gaze tracking to position the HUD, rather than head movement as previously rumored.
