Digitimes Research estimates that Apple will place orders for approximately 90 million units of the newly released iPhone 13 series with upstream assemblers in 2021.
Digitimes Research analyst Sean Lin said that among the four models in the iPhone 13 series, the iPhone 13 has the highest order volume, reaching about 40 million units, thanks to its price starting at US$799. The iPhone 13 Pro Max and iPhone 13 Pro are 25 million and 20 million units respectively, while the entry-level iPhone 13 mini is expected to experience the same fate as the previous generation, with orders of only 7 million to 9 million units this year.
Sean Lin said that Foxconn is still the largest manufacturer of the iPhone 13 series, involved in the production of all models except the iPhone 13 mini. Pegatron is the only manufacturer of the iPhone 13 mini and has also received a small number of iPhone 13 orders. Luxshare Precision acquired Wistron's iPhone factory in mainland China and also entered the iPhone supply chain not long ago, and is responsible for the trial production of a small number of iPhone 13 Pro.
Jason Yang, senior analyst at Digitimes Research, said that the iPhone 13 mini's 5.4-inch OLED display and the iPhone 13's 6.1-inch OLED display will both be based on LTPS technology, while the iPhone 13 Pro's 6.1-inch display and the iPhone 13 Pro Max's 6.7-inch display will be based on LTPO technology.
Samsung Display is the only supplier of LTPO OLED displays for the iPhone 13 Pro series, while LG Display mainly supplies LTPS OLED displays for the iPhone 13 and 13 mini series.
Jason Yang said that although LG Display has also started producing LTPO displays, it remains to be seen whether the Korean manufacturer's panels can enter the supply chain of the iPhone 13 Pro. If so, orders will be limited.
On the other hand, although BOE has entered the iPhone's supply chain, its immature technology has not yet won the Chinese manufacturer any iPhone 13 orders, but it will provide panels for the existing iPhone 12 series.
In addition, the iPhone 13 series camera lens modules are provided by Largan Precision and Yujing Optical, and Sunny Optical Technology and Wingtech Technology will compete fiercely for the remaining orders.
