"Subscription" has become a common revenue model for iOS developers. Although it was originally used for content/electronic magazines, etc., this function has now been developed for almost all apps. Developers can obtain relatively stable long-term income through this function.
However, in Apple’s official channels, apart from the first-time subscription discount, there are basically no other discount methods to attract users. Therefore, the introduction of this feature can also be regarded as helping App developers to sell more flexibly.
Coupon codes can be provided digitally or physically (such as discount cards), and can be redeemed by users through a URL or within the developer's application, or they can be distributed offline.
Unlike first-time subscription offers, these codes can be targeted to new users, existing users, or past users, meaning that old users can benefit from them if the developer wishes. This makes it easier for apps to retain old users.
Subscription coupon codes are a feature of iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 and will be launched later this year. However, the specific time has not been announced.
