According to INSIDE, Apple will provide users with new power management strategies to avoid maintaining the battery power at 100%, which will cause battery material fatigue and thus affect the service life.
It is reported that Apple will introduce a new battery health management feature in the existing MacBook, and will start pushing it to developers today, and it is expected to be updated in macOS Catalina 10.15.5. As long as the model supports Thunderbolt 3, it will receive this new feature, including MacBook Pro after 2016 and MacBook Air series after 2018.
The report pointed out that this new feature will extend the battery life by adjusting the charging speed, specifically maintaining the charge at less than 100% in certain situations. The main reason is that charging the battery to the full state will affect the ductility of the chemical materials, thereby reducing the service life. Many mobile phone manufacturers have deliberately delayed the time to charge to 100% to protect the battery.
Apple said this would not significantly affect the laptop's usage time, but the company did not elaborate.
