Experience sharing of hot air gun welding eMMC [Copy link]

This post was last edited by Nubility on 2024-1-27 19:03

It turns out that soldering eMMC with a hot air gun is very simple. I tried to solder one chip and failed, but I experienced how much wind speed would cause the chip to deviate, and the second soldering was successful. After mastering the wind speed, you only need a few steps to solder:

1. Clean the emmc pad and apply a thin layer of flux. The thicker the flux, the better. Put the emmc chip on it and align it with the silk screen frame.

2. Place the PCB on the heating table. It is best to use a suspended heating table. Try to ensure that the PCB is flat and not tilted. Preheat at 200°C for one minute.

3. Remove the nozzle of the hot air gun, adjust the temperature to 350℃, wind speed 30, point the air gun vertically at the emmc, with the air outlet about 2cm away from the emmc, slowly move the air gun, and heat the emmc evenly. Do not let the air gun be too close to prevent the emmc from being blown off

4. Observe the emmc horizontally. At the beginning, because the solder ball has not melted, the gap between the emmc and the PCB is large. Continue heating, and when you see the emmc suddenly close to the PCB, it means that the soldering is done.

5. Finally, you need to use a multimeter to measure to ensure there is no short circuit.

You can use tape to position it so it won't move.

That might require a very high temperature resistant tape.  Details Published on 2024-1-28 09:12

The hot air gun should be moved slowly when blowing, and the heated surface should be even. When the temperature reaches the right temperature, the chip is close to the PCB, and the welding is done.

This is a purely technical job, you need to practice!!!

This degree of judgment still requires some experience and practice.

Can you share which flux you used? My rosin is not very good.

I feel that rosin is better, and it is more viscous after melting.  Details Published on 2024-1-28 23:44

I usually use about 330 degrees, with a small breeze. I'll show you our air gun in half a day.
