Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said Apple plans to add a 48-megapixel camera lens to the iPhone next year, followed by a periscope lens in 2023.
In a research note obtained by MacRumors, Kuo said these iPhone camera upgrades will help boost market share, revenue and profits for manufacturer Largan Precision over the next two years.
Kuo did not provide further details, but he has previously claimed that the 48-megapixel camera will be limited to the iPhone 14 Pro models and will allow for 8K video recording. He said these high-resolution 8K videos will be suitable for viewing on the AR/VR headset that Apple is expected to launch next year.
Kuo also previously claimed that the iPhone 14 Pro models may support both 48-megapixel and 12-megapixel output. Android smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra are already using pixel limits, and the iPhone 14 Pro models can take 48-megapixel photos in bright conditions and 12-megapixel photos in low-light conditions to maintain image quality.
