Apple is looking to tap more Chinese suppliers to meet its iPhone 13 production targets, according to a new report from Nikkei Asia.
According to a previous report by Nikkei, Apple's iPhone production will be between 90 million and 95 million units by January next year, with China's Luxshare Precision winning 3% of orders from Taiwanese rivals Foxconn and Pegatron.
Although Luxshare Precision accounts for a small portion of Apple's phone production this year, its participation has reportedly made competitors uneasy. Meanwhile, China's largest smartphone camera lens maker, Sunny Optical Technology, is also said to have entered the iPhone supply chain for the first time, supplying a small number of rear camera lenses.
Previous reports have stated that BOE will soon begin supplying OLED panels for the iPhone 13 and is currently awaiting Apple's approval, along with several other Chinese suppliers and assemblers.
Today’s report highlights Apple’s goal to diversify its supply chain as much as possible, reduce risk, and improve its bargaining power among major supply chain players like Foxconn and Samsung.
