According to information from Southeast University, Professor Hong Wei's team from the Ubiquitous Communications Research Center of Purple Mountain Laboratory has made a number of important advances in 5G millimeter wave research recently. One of the results recently won the 2021 IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society (MTT-S) Microwave Prize.
It is reported that the winning paper proposed a full-angle digital pre-distortion technology for 5G millimeter-wave massive MIMO transmitters, which solved the problem of small linearization range of beam scanning and provided a potential solution for the system to achieve high-efficiency and high-linear data transmission in large-angle rapid scanning scenarios.
Professor Hong Wei's team at Purple Mountain Laboratory has been deeply engaged in the millimeter wave field and has made a series of breakthrough results based on the National Key Laboratory of Millimeter Waves of Southeast University. In response to the communication needs of B5G and even 6G, the team proposed the concept of an asymmetric millimeter wave large-scale MIMO system. This new system architecture can effectively reduce the complexity and cost of millimeter wave all-digital multi-beam arrays, and has the advantages of high capacity, large beam scanning range, and good feasibility.
In addition, Professor Hong Wei, as the leader of the FuTURE 5G millimeter wave working group, and his team led the completion of the "5G Millimeter Wave Technology" white paper, which was released at the World 5G Conference held in Guangzhou on November 27, 2020.
According to reports, the Microwave Award is the oldest award given by the IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society. It began in 1955 and is awarded annually to recognize the most important contribution in the microwave field in the previous year. This is the first time that China has won the award since its establishment. Southeast University and Purple Mountain Laboratory jointly led the research, which was funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China NSFC-SFI (China-Ireland) International Cooperation and Exchange Project.
