According to Reuters, British Health Secretary Matt Hancock said on Sunday local time that Huawei can continue to participate in the development of 5G telecommunications infrastructure, but with clear conditions.
Earlier, the British Daily Telegraph reported that the UK will gradually remove Huawei's 5G equipment in the UK within six months.
However, this is a departure from a decision made earlier this year.
When asked about the report, Matt Hancock declined to comment but said such decisions were always conditional.
“I’m not going to comment on this leak. What I can say is that when we produced our interim report earlier this year, there were a number of conditions that needed to be met,” he said. “I’m sure the National Security Council will look at those conditions and make the right decisions based on them to ensure that we have both a very robust telecommunications infrastructure ... and security.”
