Recently, Francesca Sweet, Apple's iPhone product marketing manager, discussed various issues with 5G connectivity and how they relate to the iPhone 12 in an interview.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Sweet briefly explained the iPhone 12's compatibility with both sub-6GHz and mmWave (millimeter wave) bands, noting that customers should see an increase in LTE speeds across the board.

“On mmWave, which is the high frequency band of 5G, we’re seeing speeds up to 25 times faster than LTE, so users can do some pretty incredible things,” Sweet said. “Similarly, even in sub-6GHz, we’re seeing speeds up to two times faster than LTE.”

She went on to note that 5G upload speeds are a perfect match with the iPhone 12's new video features, namely 4K HDR recording with Dolby Vision grading. Because the files can easily exceed 1GB in size, cloud syncing would be an arduous process if it were done on a slower network.

She went on to say that Apple evaluated hardware and software and worked closely with carrier partners and infrastructure providers to ensure a compact, stable, and efficient 5G design.

It then talked about unique iOS features such as "Smart Data Mode" for power and data conservation, HD FaceTime calling, multiplayer gaming, and real-time AR interactions. Enterprise customers also benefited from the addition of 5G and can now roll out their own fast private networks.

Although the entire iPhone 12 series supports 5G connectivity, millimeter wave access is currently limited to users in the United States. Friends who want to experience high-speed 5G will have to wait a little longer.
