According to the Economic Daily, due to the hot sales of iPhone 12 Pro, Apple is worried that the inventory of LiDAR components is too small, which may affect the shipment of the subsequent iPhone 12 Pro and Max models. According to industry reports, Apple has recently urgently added a large number of orders, and the production capacity of Win Semiconductors, the main LiDAR foundry, is fully utilized.
LiDAR is exclusive to the iPhone 12 Pro series, and Win Semiconductors is the main foundry. If the stock is insufficient, it will affect the production of foundries such as Foxconn and Pegatron, so Apple attaches great importance to it. According to reports, Win Semiconductors has currently added staff to continue to expand its production lines.
Win Semiconductors has continued to expand production this year. At the beginning of this month, it passed the review of the Ministry of Science and Technology and will invest in setting up a factory in the Southern Taiwan Science Park. The total investment is expected to reach NT$85 billion, creating 4,000 jobs. Regarding production capacity planning, Win Semiconductors spokesman Zeng Zhou said that as new production capacity is gradually opened, the monthly production capacity has reached 41,000 pieces. At present, there is still room for expansion of one floor in the Guishan plant. If the Guishan plant is fully loaded in the future, it will focus on investment and expansion in the Southern Taiwan Science Park.
