On the morning of June 16, according to well-known whistleblower Jon Prosser, Apple is developing a foldable iPhone prototype, which features two independent display panels connected by a hinge, rather than just one screen like the Samsung Galaxy Fold.

The design language of this foldable iPhone is similar to the current iPhone 11. The body has a rounded stainless steel frame and no "bangs", but there is a "small forehead" on the outside of the display for Face ID.

Although the foldable iPhone uses two separate displays connected by a hinge, Jon Prosser said that the connection between the two displays is quite perfect and has a good sense of integration.

Samsung Galaxy Fold

Samsung's Galaxy Fold has only one screen, which is more difficult to design. Apple's foldable iPhone looks more like Microsoft's Surface Neo and Surface Duo, both of which are foldable dual-display devices that feature two displays connected by a hinge.

The design concept is similar to Microsoft Surface Neo and Surface Duo

Apple avoids installing the screen on the hinge, which avoids the design problems that occurred in the Samsung Galaxy Fold, where folding the screen causes great damage to the screen.

There is no news yet on when Apple might develop a foldable iPhone, but Apple has done a lot of research on foldable technology. In fact, there have been rumors that Apple has been working on foldable devices since 2017, and the US Patent and Trademark Office published a patent application from Apple for a foldable display. A year later, Apple was granted a second patent for a foldable iPhone design with a flexible hinge.

A device described in a March 2020 patent features two separate displays joined together to create a single bendable device with a hinge.

Finally, Jon Prosser believes that it is unlikely that a foldable iPhone will be available this year.
