July 25, 2024, Shanghai - Recently, Shanghai Telecom, ZTE and Qualcomm Technologies have cooperated to complete a multi-channel concurrent VR service demonstration under the 5G Advanced (5G-A) high and low frequency NR-DC private network, bringing users who experience VR games on site a 5G-A VR experience with excellent picture quality and smoothness without lag . This demonstration is a new attempt by the three parties to apply advanced 5G-A technology to actual scenarios and to launch large-bandwidth, multi-user VR services in complex network environments. It will be displayed to the audience as one of the technical highlights at the ChinaJoy Snapdragon Theme Pavilion.
In this demonstration, the three parties connected smartphone terminals equipped with Snapdragon® X80 5G modem and RF system and mobile Wi-Fi (MiFi) devices to the PICO 4 Pro VR all-in-one machine based on the Snapdragon® XR2 platform in the main venue of ChinaJoy, which has a complex network environment and dense traffic. Through the NR-DC private network composed of 800MHz bandwidth in the millimeter wave band and 100MHz bandwidth in the 3.3GHz low frequency band, they accessed the core network agent using the Node Engine, a built-in computing engine in the ZTE base station, and directly connected to the VR game server to support multiple concurrent VR services. The test results show that when multiple VR services are accessed at the same time, the single-user rate can reach 80Mbps, and the VR picture clarity supports @72FPS high-definition during the experience, which can ensure that users can get a clear, smooth, and excellent VR experience without lag.

5G-A technology can improve the connectivity of traditional 5G technology and networks in terms of speed, latency, and capacity. Among them, using 5G-A's high and low-frequency NR-DC technology, a theoretical downlink peak rate of up to 8.5Gbps can be provided in the case of a single base station, and more than 50 XR user concurrent services can be supported, which is more than 5 times the capacity of low-frequency single networking technology. In addition, high and low-frequency NR-DC technology has low latency characteristics, which can well meet the needs of services with strict latency requirements, such as XR or smart industrial services. The multi-channel concurrent VR service demonstration of 5G-A high and low-frequency NR-DC in the existing network jointly completed by the three parties will help further promote the development of new applications and scenarios including high-definition live broadcast services, extended reality (XR), ultra-low latency and ultra-high-definition video, and industry, and use the latest 5G-A technology to provide users with an immersive new audio-visual experience.
Shanghai Telecom, ZTE and Qualcomm Technologies have continued to cooperate to promote the evolution of 5G. This demonstration marks that the three parties have achieved new results in technology innovation and business verification, providing strong support for the development of global 5G-A business and ecology. In the future, the three parties will work with a wider range of ecological partners to continue to promote cutting-edge technology innovation, significantly improve end-to-end connection capabilities, and press the "accelerator" for the development of 5G-A.
