Beijing, China, November 13, 2024 - As an industry-leading chip and semiconductor IP supplier committed to making data transmission faster and safer, Rambus Inc. today announced the launch of the industry's first HBM4 memory controller IP, expanding its market leadership in the HBM IP field with broad ecosystem support . This new solution supports the advanced feature set of HBM4 devices, enabling designers to address the demanding memory bandwidth requirements of next-generation AI accelerators and graphics processors (GPUs).
“As large language models (LLMs) exceed the trillion-parameter mark and continue to grow, overcoming the inherent bottlenecks of memory bandwidth and capacity is critical to meeting the urgent need for real-time performance in AI training and inference,” said Matt Jones , senior vice president and general manager of semiconductor IP at Rambus. “As a semiconductor IP provider leading the AI 2.0 era, we are launching the industry’s first HBM4 controller IP solution to help our customers achieve breakthrough performance in their most advanced processors and accelerators.”
“As heterogeneous compute architectures continue to scale to support diverse workloads with massive data movement, the HBM IP ecosystem must continue to advance its performance and deliver interoperable solutions to meet the growing needs of our customers,” said Arif Khan, senior director of marketing for Protocol IP in the Silicon Solutions Group at Cadence. “We are pleased to see Rambus supporting the ecosystem with an interoperable HBM4 controller IP solution, combined with Cadence’s leadership in HBM PHY and solution performance, to drive the industry’s transition to the next generation of HBM memory.”
“HBM4 will represent a significant breakthrough in memory technology for generative AI and other HPC applications,” said Jongshin Shin, executive vice president and head of foundry IP ecosystem at Samsung Electronics . “Ensuring the availability of HBM4 IP solutions is critical to laying a solid foundation for broad market adoption of HBM4. Samsung looks forward to working closely with Rambus and the broader ecosystem to develop new HBM4 solutions for the new era of AI.”
“In today’s complex and fast-paced semiconductor design landscape, pre-verified IP solutions are critical to achieving first-pass silicon success,” said Abhi Kolpekwar, vice president and general manager of design verification technologies at Siemens EDA . “Rambus and Siemens have a long and successful relationship that has helped our mutual customers achieve their product and business goals. We look forward to continuing our collaboration to deliver the next generation of best-in-class Rambus HBM4 memory controllers validated with Siemens’ high-quality verification IP.”
“HBM is a key enabling technology for AI because AI processors and accelerators rely on high-performance, high-density memory to meet the massive computational demands of AI workloads,” said Mario Morales, group vice president of enabling technologies and semiconductors at IDC . “As AI processors and accelerators advance, they will require advances in HBM. The availability of HBM4 IP in the market today will serve as an essential enabling building block for designers who are working to develop cutting-edge AI hardware.”
Rambus HBM4 controllers support the next generation of HBM memory deployments for cutting-edge AI accelerators, graphics, and HPC applications. HBM4 controllers support the 6.4 Gbps JEDEC specification. Rambus HBM4 controller IP can be used with third-party or customer PHY solutions to build a complete HBM4 memory subsystem.
