On June 28, SK Hynix announced that the company has developed the "industry's highest performance" solid-state drive SSD product - PCB01 for edge AI PCs, which will be available in three capacities: 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB.
It is reported that this PCB01 solid-state drive not only continues SK Hynix's leading position in ultra-high-performance DRAM fields such as HBM, but also takes an important step in NAND flash memory solutions, setting a new benchmark for the AI-oriented memory market.
SK Hynix is currently working closely with global PC customers to conduct rigorous verification of the new product. Once the verification is completed, it is expected that large-scale production will be officially launched within this year, and this excellent product will be launched to large customers and ordinary consumers at the same time.
In terms of performance, the PCB01 solid-state drive performs well. Its sequential read and write speeds are up to 14GB/s and 12GB/s respectively, bringing an unprecedented high-speed experience to PC users. Compared with the previous generation of products, the energy efficiency of PCB01 has increased by more than 30%, and this significant improvement is crucial to ensuring the stability of large-scale AI computing.
In addition, SK Hynix innovatively applied SLC Caching technology on PCB01. This technology enables some NAND flash storage units to operate in high-speed SLC mode, further improving the overall performance of the SSD.
To achieve edge-side AI, PC device manufacturers design to store LLM in the PC's internal memory, so that when the AI task starts, the data can be transferred to DRAM in a short time. In this process, SK Hynix hopes that the PCB01 installed inside the PC can quickly support LLM loading and play a role in significantly improving the speed and quality of edge-side AI.
In terms of security, PCB01 also performs well. The product is equipped with security functions to protect personal information and is equipped with a security solution root of trust (ROT), which can effectively prevent external attacks and data forgery and tampering, while protecting the security of user passwords. This move makes PCB01 at the forefront of the industry in terms of protecting user data security.
