Renesas Electronics Corporation (TSE: 6723), a global semiconductor solutions provider, and FAW , an advanced automobile manufacturer, announced that they established a joint laboratory in Changchun, China on December 1, 2020 to carry out in-depth cooperation to help FAW build its own intelligent driving development platform and jointly develop in-vehicle electronic control system solutions such as autonomous driving, smart cockpit, powertrain, and body control, which will first be applied to FAW's flagship brand Hongqi models.
FAW is committed to developing the next generation of intelligent connected vehicles that meet the future needs of networking, automation, service, and electrification. Based on the automotive-grade central computing unit, it creates an intelligent driving development platform and continuously improves its independent research and development capabilities. Renesas Electronics is not only trustworthy in the performance and reliability of semiconductors, but also has industry foresight and strong technical strength in today's highly-anticipated smart travel solutions. The two parties have established a joint laboratory to provide FAW with integrated product solutions that meet automotive industry standards such as functional safety and information security based on digital chips such as Renesas RH850 MCU and R-Car SoC, as well as analog chips such as power devices and PMIC, and have participated in the joint development of FAW Hongqi controller platform.
“Since 2006, Renesas has established a long-term technical cooperation relationship with FAW Group, a representative Chinese independent brand, and is the earliest global semiconductor solution supplier to engage in technical cooperation and IP sharing with China,” said Tomomitsu Mooka, Senior Vice President of Renesas Electronics’ Automotive Solutions Business Unit and Chairman of Renesas Electronics China. “I am very honored that the two sides have established a joint laboratory based on their long-term trust and cooperation. I believe that the two sides will further deepen their cooperation and jointly promote the innovative development of China’s automotive industry technology.”
Li Dan, Vice President of FAW R&D Center and Director of Intelligent Connected Vehicle Development Institute, said: “FAW is committed to strengthening the independent research and development of new intelligent connected vehicles. This in-depth cooperation with Renesas, which has excellent technical accumulation, will undoubtedly enrich our selection space for intelligent driving development platforms and strengthen our ability to define vehicle architecture and requirements for Chinese automotive consumption scenarios. We hope that the joint laboratory will undertake the task of technical research and achievement transformation in the field of controller development, and strive to bring users the ultimate driving experience.”
