What is the Renesas Synergy™ low-power S1JA microcontroller? What does it do? Tokyo, Japan, November 27, 2018 – Renesas Electronics Corporation (TSE: 6723), the world’s leading supplier of semiconductor solutions, announced today that, Expanded the Renesas Synergy™ S1 series of microcontrollers (MCU) and launched the S1JA product group. The ultra-low-power S1JA MCU uses a 48MHz Arm® Cortex®-M23 core, integrates advanced programmable analog and security functions, and supports high-precision sensor signal acquisition and conditioning. The S1JA MCU is suitable for cost-sensitive, low-power Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) sensor applications such as flow control meters, multi-sensor systems, headless medical monitors and instrumentation systems, and single-phase electricity meters.
The S1JA product group includes 5 MCUs with up to 256 KB of flash memory and 32 KB of SRAM memory, operating in a voltage range of 1.6V to 5.5V. Each MCU integrates a sensor bias unit to provide precise power to external sensors. The highly configurable analog network is capable of handling complex algorithms to maximize signal conditioning and achieve accurate analog measurements. On-chip analog devices include high-precision 16-bit analog-to-digital converters (ADCs), 24-bit sigma-delta ADCs, fast-response 12-bit analog-to-analog converters (DACs), rail-to-rail low-skew op amps, and high-speed/low Power consumption comparator. S1JA MCUs support advanced configuration capabilities from basic analog functions to more complex analog modules. As a result, embedded system designers can eliminate multiple external analog components, thereby reducing bill of materials cost and PCB size. Capacitive touch-sensing pins allow designers to develop touch-key HMI interfaces, while the S1JA's memory mirroring feature supports over-the-air updates, reducing software overhead.
The ultra-low-power S1JA MCU extends battery life in battery-powered portable devices and battery backup applications. Advanced software standby mode consumes only 500nA, allowing battery-powered applications with long sleep mode times to continue operating for 20 years. In addition, S1JA integrates the AES cryptographic algorithm accelerator, true random number generator (TRNG) and memory protection unit, providing basic modules for the development of cloud-connected security systems. The Renesas Synergy Software Package (SSP) supports S1JA MCU configuration of HAL drivers, application frameworks and RTOS. The SSP also includes six new modules that simplify the interconnection of configurable internal analog modules. Embedded system designers can use the Renesas Synergy development environment - e² studio or IAR Embedded Workbench® - to build projects and implement customized designs.
Daryl Khoo, vice president of product marketing for the IoT Platform Business Unit of Renesas Electronics Corporation, said: "S1JA is the first MCU in the Renesas Synergy series with rich analog functions. The excellent programmable analog functions allow users to maximize the flexibility of MCU design. , customers can try various algorithms to maximize performance and achieve design goals without significantly increasing bill of material costs and PCB space."
The S1JA MCU can be combined with the ultra-low noise ISL21090B25 precision voltage reference chip and the ISL32485E 5V differential RS-485/RS-422 transceiver for high-precision, rugged industrial sensor applications. The above is the analysis of Renesas Synergy™ low-power S1JA microcontroller, I hope it can help you.
