Have you heard of Renesas Electronics' high-efficiency power management IC? Renesas Electronics Corporation (TSE: 6723), the world's leading supplier of semiconductor solutions, today announced that its ISL91301B power management IC (PMIC) is used in the latest Google Coral products. Includes Mini PCIe accelerator, M.2 accelerator A+E key, M.2 accelerator B+M key and system-on-module (SoM). Google Coral integrates seamlessly into processes of any size, helping designers create a variety of native artificial intelligence (AI) solutions for various industries.

Do you know Renesas Electronics’ high-efficiency power management ICs?

Google Coral technology enables advanced neural network processing for low-power devices. At the heart of Coral is the Google Edge Tensor Processing Unit (TPU) coprocessor, which can perform 4 trillion operations per second (TOPS) and consume only 0.5 watts per TOPS (2 TOPS per watt). It can execute advanced mobile vision models in an energy-efficient manner, such as running MobileNet v2 at 400 FPS.

The Renesas ISL91301B PMIC provides a high-efficiency, small-footprint power solution ideal for cutting-edge, low-power edge AI processors. The ISL91301B has four buck regulator outputs, each output current is up to 4A (16A in total), and the peak efficiency is 94%. The PMIC utilizes Renesas' R5 modulation technology to achieve fast single-cycle transient response, optimized compensation and fast switching frequency. This, coupled with a solution size of only 70mm2, enables power supply designers to use 2mm x 2mm x 1mm low profile inductors, small capacitors and Minimal passive components make it easier to design small AI solutions. The ISL91301B's low quiescent current, excellent light-load efficiency, high DC accuracy and fast dynamic characteristics are ideal for low-power or battery-powered AI products.

Andrew Cowell, vice president of mobile infrastructure and IoT power products at Renesas Electronics, said: "We are excited to work with Google to develop their innovative next-generation products. Our multiphase PMIC uses Renesas Electronics' industry-leading R5 modulation technology to Achieving extremely fast transient response helps Google designers improve overall system performance by dynamically scaling power."

Kai Yick, hardware manager at Google, said: "The Renesas multiphase PMIC provides our engineering team with the high performance and design flexibility needed to build Coral. The collaboration with Renesas ensures that our Edge TPU can perform offline and local computing The highest energy efficiency can be achieved." The above is the analysis of Renesas Electronics' high-efficiency power management IC, I hope it can help you.
