IC Insights, a research firm, pointed out that this year, Samsung was dragged down by the poor memory market, and Intel is expected to regain the throne of the world's largest semiconductor supplier. In addition, if TSMC, a pure foundry, is not included, Huawei HiSilicon will rank 15th, and with an annual growth of 24%, it will be tied with Sony for the highest growth.

According to the survey data, the top five semiconductor suppliers in the world this year are expected to be Intel, Samsung, TSMC, SK Hynix and Micron; the 6th to 10th are Broadcom, Qualcomm, Texas Instruments, Toshiba and Nvidia; the 10th to 15th are Sony, STMicroelectronics, Infineon, NXP and MediaTek.

It is worth noting that among the top 15 companies, only TSMC (1%), Sony (24%) and MediaTek (1%) showed positive growth in the year. Among them, Sony mainly benefited from the strong sales of image sensors (CMOS), and its performance increased the most. Overall, it is expected that the sales of the top 15 semiconductor companies in 2019 will decline by 15% compared with last year, which is 2 percentage points lower than the estimated 13% decline in the global semiconductor industry.

IC Insights further analyzed that the memory market is expected to decline by 34% this year, among which Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron will all decline by more than 29%, with SK Hynix experiencing the largest decline, with an estimated year-on-year decrease of 38%. With Samsung's weak performance, Intel is expected to once again become the largest semiconductor supplier, with full-year sales estimated to be 26% higher than Samsung.

In addition, IC Insights specifically pointed out that the top 15 manufacturers include one pure wafer foundry, TSMC, and four fabless manufacturers. If TSMC is excluded, Huawei HiSilicon will rank 15th, with an estimated total sales of 24% year-on-year to US$7.5 billion.
