Empowering Chinese software and building an open ecosystem: Intel China Open Source Technology Committee is established
On February 24, at the 2023 Intel China Strategic Media Communication Conference with the theme of "Realism, Innovation, and Co-construction", Dr. Li Ying, Vice President of Intel Corporation and General Manager of Intel China Software Ecosystem Department, announced the official establishment of the "Intel China Open Source Technology Committee". The committee is composed of Intel open source software experts, product technology leaders and community operation experts. In the future, it will integrate internal resources to the greatest extent, use Intel's latest technology and ecological resources, integrate more deeply with China's open ecology, serve Chinese developers more professionally and efficiently, and promote the construction of open source ecology and industrial development.
Li Ying said: "The establishment of Intel China Open Source Technology Committee shoulders a new mission. We will take root in China, realize Intel's open values and full-stack software strategy, lead technology trends, build a prosperous community, promote the software industry and cultivate innovative projects in China through open ecosystem construction. In the future, Intel will continue to be based on the Chinese software ecosystem, promote global open cooperation, adhere to software-chip integration, and cultivate China's innovative future."
In the future, Intel China Open Source Technology Committee will work on China's open source projects, community cooperation, developer technical support, etc., communicate with partners and major open source communities, and jointly create an open ecosystem.
Promoting local innovation with open source
Chips and manufacturing are the hard core foundation of technological development and the superpower for building the digital world, while software defines various usage scenarios and architectures. While Intel is relentlessly promoting Moore's Law, it is also building a world that is "software-defined and chip-enhanced."
From hardware, software to upper-level services, innovation and progress in every link cannot be separated from an open ecological environment. Focusing on China's innovation hotbed, China's software ecosystem is currently in a golden stage of development. China is moving from a software power to a software powerhouse, which requires the entire ecosystem to be open and complementary, and to support local innovation through world-leading open source projects. With the establishment of the Intel China Open Source Technology Committee, Intel will also support the development of China's software ecosystem with greater efforts.
Actively contribute to the open ecosystem
Intel has a long history of contributing to the open ecosystem. Over the past 20 years, Intel has continued to invest in global open source projects and become an active contributor to the open ecosystem. For example, Intel's 19,000 software engineers have participated in more than 100 open source projects, contributing, managing, and maintaining more than 300 communities. In the past 15 years, Intel has been the largest code contributor to the Linux Kernel, and has been an outstanding contributor to the important containerized open source community Kubernetes for many years. In addition, Intel is a core member of more than 700 standardization organizations and actively participates in trusted computing open source projects.
In China, Intel adheres to open integration and local innovation, and has achieved fruitful results in the integration of underlying software supporting hardware platforms, key technologies supporting operating systems, and virtualization supporting cloud-edge services. For example, Baidu PaddlePaddle combines Intel oneAPI and OpenVINO to promote the co-construction of China's AI technology and community, serving Chinese developers in many aspects from program implementation, community activities to developer learning resources, and jointly building an open ecosystem.
