Recently, Huawei
Mate10 Pro
was named the best Android phone of 2017 by the authoritative technology media Android Authority.
To select the best Android phone of 2017, Android Authority conducted more than 40 product tests, using test results from hundreds of dimensions to ensure the authenticity and objectivity of the selection.
After multiple tests, Android Authority finally used screen, sound, camera, battery life, performance, user experience and cost performance as the main evaluation indicators to score the mainstream Android phones on the market. From the following score table, we can see that Huawei Mate 1 0 Pro won the championship with 361 points, becoming the best Android phone of 2017.
The strong overall strength of Huawei Mate 10 Pro is inseparable from Kirin 970. Kirin 970 is Huawei's first artificial intelligence mobile chip, with an innovative HiAI mobile computing architecture that comprehensively improves AI computing power .
Based on the intelligent computing power of Kirin 970, Huawei Mate 10 Pro has greatly improved its performance in photography, performance, user experience, battery life, etc., which has also become the key to winning the title of the best Android phone of 2017.
Kirin 970 adopts the industry's most advanced TSMC 10nm process technology, integrating 5.5 billion transistors on a chip the size of a fingernail, overcoming the power consumption challenges brought about by the increase in transistors.
At the same time, based on the performance improvement, Huawei Mate 10 Pro has better battery life, bringing a long-lasting battery life experience in mobile phone usage scenarios such as calls, music, videos, and games.
Huawei's achievements are the result of its long-term commitment to innovation and continuous growth. We all hope that one day Huawei will surpass Apple in both technology and market share.
Huawei vs Apple
In 2016, Huawei's global sales revenue was
$79.6 billion,
while Apple's operating revenue was as high as $175.7 billion. Huawei's net profit last year was $5.7 billion, while Apple's net profit was $45.7 billion, more than eight times that of the former. The data is very different.
However, if you look at the data from previous years, you will find that Huawei is on a growth trend and Apple is on a downward trend.

1. R&D investment: Huawei > Apple
There is one statistic that Huawei surpasses Apple in, and that is R&D investment.

Statistics show that Huawei's R&D investment reached 60.8 billion yuan in 2016, while Apple's R&D investment was 53.8 billion yuan.
You may say that R&D investment does not equal a company's technological strength. That's right, many R&D achievements are eventually ruthlessly "slapped in the face" by the market. For example, Samsung's annual R&D investment ranks second in the world, second only to Volkswagen. In 2013, Samsung launched its first curved screen mobile phone, Galaxy Round, which was intended to make a big news, but unexpectedly became a joke in the technology industry. Guo Taiming once joked that it was difficult to understand such a product "designed for consumers' buttocks".
2. Huawei’s development history in chip manufacturing
Huawei's chip manufacturing history can be traced back to 2004. At that time, it mainly made chips for some industries, mainly supporting network and video applications. In 2009, Huawei launched its first mobile phone chip K3. However, due to the immaturity of the product, even the copycat phones in Huaqiangbei were unwilling to use it. Two years later, Huawei launched an improved version of K3V2, which was used in the newly launched D2 mobile phone. This is the world's first mobile phone chip solution that integrates a quad-core ARM cortex A9, but it still has problems such as poor compatibility and high power consumption.
After further modifications, the 910 was created and used in models such as P7 and Mate2. It became the first usable chip with power consumption and performance acceptable to the public.
After further modification, the Kirin 920 was made and used in Honor 6, Mate 7 and other models. Compared with the MediaTek MT6595, which is at the same level and has been reported by the media to have leakage defects, the Kirin 920 does a better job in multi-core scheduling, performance and power consumption balance.
Then there is the 930, Huawei's first 64-core processor; the latest 950 chip has improved power consumption performance and is used in the latest flagship Mate 8. Thanks to its outstanding power consumption control, the battery life of the Mate 8 has been well received.
In contrast, Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810 processor in 2015 pitted a large number of manufacturers. Because of its severe heat generation, Snapdragon was nicknamed "burning dragon" by netizens. Mobile phones using this chip such as Xiaomi Note top version, LeTV M9, Hammer T2, etc., all had mediocre sales.
By now, Huawei has launched Kirin 970. Kirin 970 is an artificial intelligence mobile phone chip. As mentioned above, the performance of Mate 10 Pro equipped with Kirin 970 has been greatly improved in terms of photography, performance, user experience, and battery life.
3. Number of patent applications ranked first in the world
In terms of the number of patent applications, another indicator of R&D strength, Huawei ranked first in the world in 2015.
Take the iPhone SE as an example. After careful market research, Apple found that many consumers still have a special liking for small-screen mobile phones. Therefore, using the shell of the iPhone 5s and the configuration of the iPhone 6s became the wisest choice. There was no need to redesign the appearance or redevelop the chip, which saved a lot of money. The price of 3,000 yuan was also very attractive.
The iPhone SE has a pink version, perhaps because Apple saw the hot sales of the pink iPhone 6. This is also a very smart move. Apple's marketing strategy has once again been a great success. The iPhone SE was sold out on the first day of its release. But dissatisfaction also followed: yellow screen, loose power button... This may be the most complained about Apple phones.
4. Ren Zhengfei vs. Tim Cook
Ren Zhengfei is 16 years older than Cook, but looks much older than him. Both are Scorpios, and have many similar personalities: low-key and steady, not fond of publicity. Ren Zhengfei is the founder of Huawei, and Cook is the successor of Apple.
In 1987, Ren Zhengfei invested 20,000 yuan to start his own business. There is a story circulating in the industry: One year, a Huawei salesperson visited the leader of a telecommunications bureau in a border area. During the conversation, the leader was quite emotional and said that someone from Huawei had been here ten years ago. The person was carrying an old military green schoolbag and knocked on the door to ask if we wanted to buy switches...
The salesperson took the story back to the headquarters and told it to his older colleagues. They were also moved and told the young people that the man who carried the old schoolbag to sell switches was probably the boss, Ren Zhengfei.
Compared with Ren Zhengfei, who started from scratch, Cook's task seems to be less difficult. His situation is like taking over a rocket that is still in the air, and Cook has managed to keep the rocket flying.
Cook, 55, joined Apple in 1998 and became CEO in August 2011. Two months later, he hosted his first press conference and launched the iPhone 4S.
When Cook first took over, there was a widespread rumor in the market that Jobs' departure would leave Apple leaderless, but Cook did not give short sellers a chance, and Apple still maintained a stable growth situation. Wall Street was very satisfied with him. In terms of company management, Ren Zhengfei is good at "ruling by doing nothing", while Cook is good at operations.
In January 2015, Ren Zhengfei told the BBC in Davos that he had no ability and knew nothing about technology, management and finance. He just sat back and enjoyed the fruits of others' labor. Of course, no one would take his overly modest words seriously. This 70-year-old man has been firmly in control of the direction of Huawei since 1987.
Huawei started out as an operator business, but Ren Zhengfei was obviously not satisfied with that. He wanted to create his own high-end mobile phone brand.
According to Caijing Tianxia Weekly, in early 2003, Huawei made a D208 feature phone, and the mold cost 268,000 yuan. After seeing the prototype, Ren Zhengfei found that it was far from the high-end fashion machine he wanted, and smashed it in anger. Occupying the mid-to-high-end mobile phone market has always been his requirement for terminals.
In 2012, Huawei reluctantly gave up its customized mobile phone business and launched its own high-end models P1 and D1, priced at 2,999 and 3,999 yuan respectively. Soon after, Huawei launched P2 and D2. These high-end models all had poor sales and were often ridiculed by its peers.
Richard Yu, who was in charge of Huawei's consumer business, later liked to say a phrase: "Fight again and again despite repeated failures." The only affirmation and comfort he received came from Ren Zhengfei, who told mobile product manager Bruce Lee, "Mr. Ren praised you today. Mr. Ren bought a Samsung machine and said it was harder to use than Huawei's." By 2013, the slim Huawei P6 was a success, with global sales exceeding 4 million units.
Compared with Ren Zhengfei, who was born in the military, Cook's leadership style is completely different. He is best at operations. Guokr.com once published an article saying that everyone had always focused on Jobs' outstanding market foresight and novel designs. The fact is different from what people think. For a huge and complex company like Apple, operational capabilities are as important as technological progress.
In the Jobs era, engineers had supreme status. They decided what products to produce, and then product management and supply management produced them. Now it is the other way around.
Most Apple employees are pleased with Cook. He often sits casually with employees at lunch, whereas Jobs usually ate only with the chief designer. This small change illustrates the changing relationship between employees and the CEO.
If there is any regret about Apple in the Cook era, it is that he has not yet come up with new products that will impress people. Ren Zhengfei and Cook, two leaders with different styles, are leading the two technology giants in different directions.
But Ren Zhengfei himself may not like such comparison. In March 2014, Ren Zhengfei clearly pointed out that Huawei's terminal business should not blindly use Samsung, Apple, and Xiaomi as benchmark companies. First, we cannot integrate vertically in a short period of time and cannot become Apple; second, we cannot integrate horizontally. Samsung relies on the power of the state for support, and we cannot become Samsung. Therefore, Huawei must "stick to its own path", and the consumer BG must be profit-centered and not let the Internet cause fever.
It is the same in any industry. Only by insisting on taking your own path can you stand out and discover user needs that other companies have not discovered. The significance of comparison is that it can drive companies to move forward faster.
