ADI launches new wideband frequency synthesizer, leading in three major performances
Analog Devices introduces a wideband frequency synthesizer with an integrated voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) that delivers breakthrough performance and flexibility for a variety of market applications including aerospace and defense, wireless infrastructure, microwave point-to-point links, electronic test and measurement, and satellite terminals.
The new broadband fractional-N frequency synthesizer ADF5610 uses a single chip design to output RF signals in the frequency range of 55MHz to 15GHz and provides the industry's lowest phase noise performance. Compared with alternative solutions that require multiple narrowband GaAs voltage-controlled oscillators and phase-locked loops (PLLs), the ADF5610 has 50% lower power consumption, smaller size, and simpler architecture, saving bill of materials costs and shortening time to market.
Developed with ADI's proprietary advanced SiGe BiCMOS process, the ADF5610 features high modulation bandwidth and low bit error rate.
Its VCO phase noise is at the industry's leading level (-114dBc/Hz at 100kHz offset and -165dBc/Hz at 100MHz offset at 10GHz operating frequency), and the normalized phase noise floor (FOM) is also low at -229dBc/Hz. The integrated PLL function enables fast frequency hopping and locking time (less than 50μs when using a suitable loop filter). The phase detector spurious level is typically less than -45dBc, while the RF output power level is 6dBm.
The ADF5610 wideband fractional-N frequency synthesizer is easy to design-in and fully supported by ADIsimPLL™, a comprehensive and easy-to-use PLL frequency synthesizer design and simulation tool developed by Analog Devices to evaluate phase noise, lock time, jitter, and other design considerations. The device can be customer-programmed using the integrated SPI interface and control software.
The ADF5610 is specified over the -40°C to +85°C temperature range. It operates from nominal 3.3-V analog and digital supplies as well as 5-V charge pump and VCO supplies, with 1.8-V logic level compatibility. The synthesizer also features hardware and software power-down modes.
The ADF5610 is available in a 7x7 mm LFCSP package. Samples are available now, with production quantities starting in August. To view the ADF5610 product page, download the data sheet, or request samples, click here .
