China has now entered a special stage
"We'll talk about it after the New Year..."
"Forget it, the New Year is coming soon..."
Chinese people all over the world are preparing for the Chinese New Year, but do you know how the word "Nian" came about?
The Chinese New Year is from the eighth day of the twelfth lunar month to the fifteenth day of the first lunar month. New Year's Eve and the Spring Festival are the end of the year and the beginning of the new year. People have to carry out activities such as sweeping the house, pasting Spring Festival couplets, setting off firecrackers, eating dumplings, staying up late, and paying New Year's greetings to get rid of the old and welcome the new.
Legend has it that in ancient times there was a beast called "Xi" that liked to eat birds, beasts, reptiles and insects. On the last day of the year, it wanted to eat meat and came out to eat people at night. In order not to be eaten by the beast on the last day of the year, people stayed up all night, chatting and cracking melon seeds. When the sun rose, "Xi" left. After people had survived the night, they would of course congratulate each other when they met. This was called New Year's greetings.
But it was not a good idea to keep doing this, so people found a god named "Nian" and asked him for help. The god asked the villagers to drive "Xi" out of the village so that he could kill it with lightning. The beast was afraid of noise, so the god gave the villagers firecrackers, and it would run out when frightened. To commemorate the god for helping them get rid of the beast, people would set off firecrackers at this time every year.
The Classic of Mountains and Seas mentions an island with mountains of gold and silver and a peach tree. Next to the tree is a door guarded by two gods, Shentu and Yulei, who protect the safety of mankind. In order to pray for blessings, people carved two gods out of peach wood and hung them on the door. The peach charms are the earliest Spring Festival couplets. There was a king named Meng Chang in Hou Shu. He thought it was boring to carve two people on the door. As a cultured person, he wanted something different, so he wrote the two-line couplet "New Year brings more happiness, and the festival is called Changchun."
In recent days, everyone has been collecting blessings on Alipay to the point of exhaustion! Do you know the story related to the word "Fu"?
Zhu Yuanzhang, the founding emperor of the Ming Dynasty, was very suspicious and always felt that someone was going to rebel, so he sent spies to find out who was going to rebel. If he killed some meritorious officials openly, it would easily ruin his reputation, so he asked the eunuchs to paste the word "Fu" on the door of the person he was going to kill at night. Unexpectedly, the queen was kind-hearted and didn't want him to kill anyone, so she sent eunuchs to arrange for the people to paste the word "Fu" on their doors so that he couldn't tell who was going to be killed. Zhu Yuanzhang was very angry when he saw this situation. At this time, he accidentally found that a family had pasted the word "Fu" upside down. It happened that he had nowhere to vent his anger, so he ordered the arrest of this family. The queen responded by saying that the "Fu" was pasted intentionally, which meant "Fu has arrived", which was the blessing brought by the emperor, indicating that the world was peaceful and the people lived and worked in peace and contentment, and they should be rewarded heavily. From then on, every family would paste an upside-down "Fu" at the door during the New Year.
