AS8579 is a high-precision capacitive sensor that uses I/Q phase modulation technology. It supports up to 10 independent measurement channels and can achieve a full signal throughput rate of up to 1kHz. The capacitance signal detection sensitivity can reach up to 80fF/LSB.

The AS8579 is fully automotive-grade qualified and offers multiple on-chip diagnostic features to ensure support for automotive ISO 26262 functional safety standards up to ASIL B. The AS8579 operates at four selectable driver output frequencies (45.45kHz, 71.43kHz, 100kHz or 125kHz) and has excellent immunity to electromagnetic interference. It is rated for operation over a temperature range of -40°C to 125°C.

AS8579 can be applied to automotive in-cabin sensing, smart surfaces, two-wheel transportation, industrial and consumer electronics. For example, it can be integrated into the steering wheel to reuse the existing heating resistor for steering wheel hand-off detection HOD, realize gesture sensing, occupant presence detection in smart cockpit applications, or perform level detection on a variety of different liquids.
