IT Home reported on March 5 that as Apple gets closer to completing its transition from Intel Mac to Apple Silicon, the company is expected to launch more Mac computers with self-developed chips this year. Sources have learned that in addition to the rumored new Mac mini and Mac Pro, Apple is also developing a brand new "Mac Studio" computer.
According to reports, the new Mac Studio is mainly based on the Mac mini, but with more powerful hardware. Apple is developing two versions of the Mac Studio. One uses the M1 Max chip (the same as the 2021 MacBook Pro), and the other is a variant of the Apple Silicon chip that is more powerful than the current M1 Max.
According to the source, the new Mac Studio's internal model number is "J375."
Although the name "Mac Studio" may change, it represents a new category between the Mac mini and Mac Pro, aimed at professional users. The branding also matches the "Apple Studio Display" that Apple has been developing, suggesting that Apple will widely promote the two products as a perfect combination for professional work.

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman previously said that Apple is developing a "smaller Mac Pro" equipped with Apple Silicon chips with 40 CPU cores and 128 GPU cores. The "smaller Mac Pro" will actually be the new "Mac Studio" to replace the high-end Intel version of the Mac mini that is still on the market.
At the same time, Mac Studio will give Apple more time to develop the first Mac Pro with Apple Silicon chips, as there are rumors that the company still plans to release another new Intel-based Mac Pro.
Apple will hold a special event on March 8 where it's expected to announce new Macs, but Gurman thinks there will be more new Macs at WWDC in June — so perhaps a new Mac Studio is just a few months away from being officially announced.
