Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said today in his "Power On" newsletter that Apple's first event of 2022 could take place in March or April. Gurman said a new iPhone SE with 5G support and a faster chip could be unveiled at the event.
Last year, Apple held an April 20 event to announce AirTag item trackers, new iPad Pro and 24-inch iMac models, a second-generation Apple TV 4K, and a new purple color option for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini.
Apple did not hold a spring event in 2020. Apple still announced several new products on its website that spring, including updated MacBook Air and iPad Pro models on March 18 and the second-generation iPhone SE on April 15.
In addition to the new iPhone SE, Apple may release a new 27-inch iMac and high-end Mac mini models with M1 Pro and M1 Max chips at an event in March or April.
Gurman also said that he is almost certain that WWDC will still be a fully online event this year.
While rumors have suggested the Apple Watch Series 8 will get a body temperature sensor, he said that "discussions about it have slowed recently," so it's unclear whether the feature will still arrive in 2022 or will be delayed.
