Apple is set to file a lawsuit against Russia’s Federal Antimonopoly Service over its App Store payment policy.
The lawsuit is related to an August warning from FAS telling Apple to have app developers suggest alternative payment methods to users rather than using Apple's in-app purchase system.
At the time, the FAS gave Apple until September 30 to comply or face possible penalties for its revenue in Russia. In October, the regulator then filed an antitrust lawsuit against Apple, accusing it of non-compliance.
The lawsuit comes days after Apple revised its developer guidelines to relax its terms, a move that could theoretically bring Apple into compliance with antitrust regulations, albeit later than required. Apple is now seeking a judicial review of the regulator’s warning, according to Russia Today.
In July, Apple appealed an earlier 2020 FAS ruling that the App Store gave Apple an unfair advantage in the digital economy, resulting in a $12 million fine.
