According to a report by South Korean authoritative media BusinessKorea today, Samsung's System LSI Business Department said it will supply its Exynos series processors (APs) for smartphones to Chinese smartphone manufacturers Xiaomi, OPPO and vivo in 2021.
It is reported that because its technological strength has been recognized, Samsung is preparing to supply APs to one of the above-mentioned companies' cheap mobile phones (or mid-to-low-end models) in the first half of 2021, and said it may supply it to its high-end smartphones later.
Due to low profit margins, Samsung's System LSI Business Unit has begun to reduce the supply of its Exynos APs to Samsung's Wireless Business Unit and seek new customers with a focus on Chinese manufacturers. IT Home learned that Samsung's Exynos 980 and 880 have successfully entered vivo's supply chain and achieved certain results.
The report pointed out that since the beginning of this year, Samsung Electronics decided not to use its own advanced AP (Exynos 990) for the Galaxy S20 models released in the Korean market. Instead, the 1080 AP produced using the company's 5nm process (to be officially released in Shanghai on November 12) will be used in vivo's 5G smartphone X60 and Samsung's Galaxy A series.
Industry sources said that the performance of the 1080 AP will be better than Qualcomm's flagship AP Snapdragon 865. In addition, Samsung will release the Exynos 2100 in early 2021.
South Korean media said that Samsung Electronics is benefiting from the ban on Huawei. As Huawei is in trouble, Xiaomi and OPPO need to secure more APs to expand their production lines. In this case, Samsung Exynos AP has attracted the attention of Chinese smartphone manufacturers with its strong cost performance.
