According to TrendForce's TrendForce Research Institute, 5G technology was implemented in telemedicine and industrial Internet during the outbreak this year; the application end is mainly contactless sterilization robots, remote work and teaching. Currently, China is the most active in the world in the 5G field. In the first half of 2020, China has more than 400 5G innovative applications covering transportation, industry and medical fields. The emergence of 5G services has also increased the demand for base station construction.

TrendForce Research Institute Research Director Hsieh Yu-shan also pointed out that from a technical perspective, the demand for 5G base stations is rising in response to the growth of mobile data traffic, low-latency applications (such as self-driving cars, telesurgery, and smart factories), and large-scale machine networking (such as smart cities). The construction of base stations can stabilize investment, promote the development of the value chain, and leverage the synergy between the telecommunications industry and other industries.

China's 5G base stations will exceed 600,000 in 2020, and Japanese and Korean equipment manufacturers are actively deploying overseas markets

In 2019, Chinese and European equipment vendors accounted for 85% of the global 5G base station market share, with Sweden's Ericsson, China's Huawei, and Finland's Nokia as the three major suppliers. However, Huawei was affected by the Sino-US trade war and the US ban on Huawei, forcing it to be unable to obtain key components supplied by major US RF front-end component manufacturers, which in turn affected its base station exports. Therefore, it is estimated that Huawei's base station equipment deployment this year will focus on the Chinese market.

As of the first half of 2020, China's three major operators, China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom, have built more than 250,000 5G base stations in China; by the end of 2020, 600,000 will be deployed, and it is expected to cover cities above the second-tier administrative regions in China. In addition, China's new infrastructure construction, such as 5G networks and all-optical networks, will also inject business opportunities for Huawei. The Global Mobile Communications Association (GSMA) estimates that by 2025, more than a quarter of mobile devices in China will run on 5G networks, accounting for one-third of global 5G network connections.

In addition, Samsung base station equipment is also on the rise, mainly due to the successful commercialization of 5G in South Korea. Samsung has provided base station construction to the three major operators in South Korea, SKT, KT, and LG Uplus; it also cooperates with American operators AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon. With the British government using Japan's NEC and Fujitsu as potential alternative suppliers of 5G equipment, coupled with the European and American governments' policy of banning Huawei, Japanese equipment manufacturers will have the opportunity to increase their market share in Europe and the United States.
