Hong Kong media reported that Huawei founder Ren Zhengfei said at a business forum on September 26 that Huawei can still survive without US components, and is already producing 5G base stations that do not contain US components and will expand production next year.
According to a report on the Hong Kong Economic Times website on September 27, Ren Zhengfei also said that he still welcomes the resumption of US supply because he has had a friendship with suppliers for more than 30 years. "People still have feelings. We can't just make money for us and prevent our friends from making money."
Zhang Wenlin, president of Huawei's strategy department, told Reuters that Huawei's base stations without U.S. components perform no worse than those with U.S. components, but declined to provide further details.
When asked about how to make good use of technology and achieve technological inclusiveness, Ren Zhengfei said, "We just treat 5G as a base station, not an atomic bomb, and it can be widely used." He said that technology should not be politicized, and should be chosen through commercial and market competition and comparison, so that everyone can share the benefits brought by the same new technology.
