By increasing the payload capacity of its large-payload collaborative robots, Universal Robots can effectively increase its customers’ production throughput and overall production efficiency.
On October 24, 2024, Universal Robots (UR), a global collaborative robot manufacturer, announced a major upgrade today: the load capacity of the new generation of high-load collaborative robots UR20 and UR30 will be increased without changing the selling price.
After the upgrade, the maximum load capacity of UR20 and UR30 has been increased to 25 kg and 35 kg respectively (including the weight of the end effector). This is a crucial advancement for performing palletizing operations and developing related solutions.

“We are committed to continuously improving our products and as soon as we develop new features, we want our partners and customers to experience these improvements immediately,” said Tero Tolonen, Chief Product Officer at Universal Robots . “This increase in payload capacity will increase our customers’ productivity without increasing their costs. Our relentless pursuit of innovation has been successfully translated into tangible benefits for our customers, which is clearly reflected in this upgrade.”
It is worth mentioning that this increase in load capacity does not require any additional payment from customers and can be completed through a software upgrade in just a few minutes. Users only need to update the UR PolyScope software to version 5.19 or higher to unlock the higher load capacity. UR20 and UR30 robots shipped in 2024 will be equipped with software that supports higher loads by default.
At the China International Industry Fair held in Shanghai in September this year, Universal Robots demonstrated the UR20 palletizing application with increased load for the first time, marking a major breakthrough in the company's automation technology. Looking ahead, Universal Robots looks forward to working with more customers to explore how to use this innovative technology to drive their business growth and achieve high efficiency and intelligence in industrial production.
