On November 6, 2024, Universal Robots (UR), a global collaborative robot manufacturer, today released the UR AI Accelerator, a plug-and-play hardware and software solution designed to promote innovation in AI-enabled collaborative robot applications.
Designed for both commercial and research use cases, the system provides developers with a flexible and scalable platform for building and optimizing applications, accelerating scientific research, and shortening the time to market for AI products.
UR AI Accelerator
The UR AI accelerator is compatible with Universal Robots' next-generation PolyScope X software platform , and can run efficiently on the NVIDIA Jetson AGX Orin™ system module with the support of the NVIDIA Isaac™ acceleration system and advanced AI models. The NVIDIA Isaac Manipulator can also help developers integrate accelerated performance and cutting-edge AI technology into their respective robotic solutions. In addition, the UR AI accelerator integrates the newly developed high-quality Orbbec Gemini 335Lg 3D camera.

The system integrates components seamlessly, providing developers with a complete, ready-to-go solution. Through built-in demonstration programs, the UR AI accelerator combines with the Universal Robots platform to achieve posture estimation, target tracking, target detection, path planning, image classification, quality inspection, and condition monitoring. With the support of PolyScope X, the UR AI accelerator also allows developers to freely choose the toolsets, programming languages, and libraries they want to use, and flexibly create their own programs.
“With the launch of the UR AI Accelerator, we provide our partners with all the tools they need to develop and deploy innovative AI solutions,” said Kim Povlsen, President and CEO of Universal Robots . “As a technology pioneer driving the AI collaborative robot application market, we will continue to push the boundaries of technology and look forward to this new system bringing innovative experiences to our partners and end users.”
”
James Davidson, Chief AI Technology Officer of Teradyne Robotics Group, added : "The UR AI Accelerator is about unlocking the true potential of artificial intelligence. When users build solutions on our platform, they can reduce deployment time and risk associated with developing AI-based solutions. Our goal is to take AI applications in the physical world to the next level. This system is one of the first AI-driven products to market in the UR product line, with the goal of making robotics more accessible and actionable."
At the ROSCon 2024 conference in Odense, Denmark in October this year, Universal Robots' booth demonstrated UR AI accelerator and CNC machine applications, successfully attracting hundreds of robot software developers to visit.

The PolyScope X platform is now available worldwide for collaborative robot automation projects in a variety of industries. At the PolyScope X online technology sharing event in November, Universal Robots will demonstrate the advanced flexibility and scalability of the PolyScope X platform in depth, while detailing a series of newly developed solutions, including artificial intelligence solutions. After that, users only need to make a small hardware upgrade to achieve seamless integration with UR's e-series collaborative robots and the new generation of UR20 and UR30 collaborative robots.
