On September 5, Intel said in a press release yesterday that its Intel 18A advanced node is currently progressing well. To further support the development of Intel 18A, the company announced that it will focus engineering resources on this node in advance.
At the same time, the Arrow Lake client processor series will mainly use external processes and be packaged by Intel Foundry. According to previous reports, products using Intel 20A process include the 6+8 core design of the Intel Arrow Lake processor desktop version.

Intel stated that the defect density indicator D0 (IT Home Note: number of defects per square centimeter) of the Intel 18A process is less than 0.40, so it is economically appropriate to transfer engineering resources on the Intel 20A node to Intel 18A at this time.
Intel said it has laid the foundation for two technologies, RibbonFET GAA transistors and PowerVia backside power supply, at the Intel 20A node, which will be commercially implemented for the first time at Intel 18A.
According to Intel's disclosure in August, Panther Lake and Clearwater Forest samples based on Intel 18A have been shipped, powered on and successfully started the operating system. The node is expected to be launched in 2025.
