As an important component of linear motion, linear modules generally need to be driven by motors and control the drive equipment at the same time. Among them, stepper motors and servo motors are more commonly used. Although they are also suitable for linear module motion drive, there are great differences in actual use. In fact, different projects choose different drive motors. So what is the difference between using stepper motors and servo motors?
1. Different control accuracy: There is a certain gap in the control accuracy of these two motors, which is very important in motor selection. The servo motor can realize position closed-loop control, fundamentally overcoming the step-out problem of the stepper motor in the linear module movement.
2. The operating performance is different. The control of the stepper motor is open-loop control. If the starting frequency is too high or the load is too high, it is easy to lose step or stall. If the speed is too high when stopping, it is easy to overshoot. The servo motor is closed-loop control, which will not lose step, stall or overshoot, and the control performance is more reliable.
3. The overload capacity is different. Stepper motors generally do not have overload capacity, while AC servo motors have strong overload capacity.
4. Speed response performance: It usually takes 300 to 400 milliseconds for a stepper motor to accelerate from a standstill to the operating speed, while the servo motor has better acceleration performance and can be used in control situations that require fast start and stop.
5. Low-frequency characteristics: stepper motors tend to produce low-frequency vibrations when running at low speeds, while servo motors run very smoothly and there is no vibration even at low speeds.
