Intel is preparing its 14th generation processors, and some mobile models will use the Meteor Lake architecture and Foveros packaging. Previous Linux patches hinted that Meteor Lake would support L4 level four cache.

According to Intel's December 2020 patent, the company's "next-generation SoC architecture," also known as Meteor Lake, will feature "package caching." In other words, the Adamantine cache (L4 cache, ADM for short) will become part of the foundation block and can be accessed by any building block of the next generation SoC.

The patent shows that Meteor Lake will be fully hybrid architecture, combining five different modules: CPU, SoC, GPU, I/O and base module. The newly introduced Adamantine cache will provide faster access than any typical cache (such as L3 cache).

Intel explains in the patent that the main purpose of the L4 cache is to improve boot optimization and increase security around the host CPU. Additionally, the L4 cache will remain cached across resets, thus improving load times that would otherwise have to go through all the boot/reset cycles.

According to the latest news from Moore's Law is Dead, Intel Meteor Lake's ADM cache can be expanded to the "GB" level, but the current tested size is 128MB to 512MB.

Intel Meteor Lake processors are expected to launch in the second half of 2023.

Breaking the XXnm process naming convention, will Intel's new rules trigger industry changes?
Under the guidance of Moore's Law, the number of transistors on integrated circuits is constantly increasing. The industry uses XXnm to describe the process, such as 40nm, 28nm, 14nm, 10nm, etc. The smaller the number, the more advanced the process. However, as transistors gradually approach the physical limit, this n
