Paper signs have become history, and the era of automobile electronic identification is coming; this automobile electronic identification system is RFID. The popularity of RFID is in line with the trend of automobile intelligence and networking. RFID is an extension of smart transportation based on the Internet of Things; the principle is similar to today's face recognition. People don't need to take out their ID cards, they can identify personal identity information by scanning their faces. However, it is found that many people confuse ETC with RFID. Although various places have been vigorously carrying out the work of increasing the installation rate of ETC recently, there are many essential differences between the two. To facilitate everyone's understanding, Bingge will take advantage of the current popularity of ETC and introduce the automobile electronic ID card - RFID through some differences between ETC and RFID.
There are qualitative differences between the two in terms of security level, transmission rate, and recognition rate.
As the saying goes, those who are capable get more work. The encryption algorithm commonly used by ETC with relatively simple functions is the DES algorithm. DES is a set of cryptographic algorithms developed by IBM. The research and development background is the government non-confidential sensitive information security and confidentiality algorithm developed with the support of the US NSA. RFID currently generally uses the SM7 encryption algorithm independently developed with independent intellectual property rights. The security protocol uses a dedicated security mechanism to protect the security of data exchange, and can implement the "one-time one-key" anti-copy mechanism and two-way authentication mechanism. Just like the reason that license plates need to be protected from counterfeiting and currency needs to be anti-counterfeiting, when the RFID has more functions and the transmitted data information is more important, it should adopt a higher security level encryption algorithm.
In addition, due to the different application scenarios of ETC and RFID, there are significant differences in data transmission rate and recognition rate between the two. At present, the air transmission rate of ETC is generally 200ms at a time, and data collection can only be achieved when the vehicle passes at a speed below 60km/h, which is why there is a speed limit in the ETC channel. The air transmission rate of RFID is about 20ms at a time. At this transmission rate, even if the vehicle is moving at a speed of 240km/h, accurate data transmission can still be achieved.
The standard setting departments of the two are different
RFID is not a particularly new thing. As early as the 2017 National Games, in order to ensure the rapid passage of service vehicles, RFID, that is, the automotive electronic identification system, was installed to achieve the rapid passage of service vehicles. RFID is a passive electronic card containing a radio frequency chip that can be installed on the windshield of a car for the identification of the car, which is equivalent to the electronic ID card of the car. The biggest difference between RFID and ETC is that the former is a standard specification led by the Ministry of Public Security for the purpose of vehicle control; the latter is a non-stop electronic toll collection system for the main purpose of the Ministry of Transport to achieve non-stop toll collection on highways, which is essentially different. At present, many regions in China have been piloting the automotive electronic identification system, and the popularization of the automotive electronic identification system is now ready, only the policy is needed.
There are big differences between the two in application scenarios
ETC is not unfamiliar to most people. Its most basic function is that it can realize non-stop toll collection on highways. With the access of Internet companies, ETC now also has payment functions such as parking, car washing, and refueling, but its core function is still non-stop toll collection on highways. Compared with ETC, the application scenarios of RFID automobile electronic identification system are like the difference between mobile phone cameras and professional SLR cameras in application scenarios. In addition to realizing vehicle control, RFID automobile electronic identification system can also serve as application scenarios such as urban traffic management, environmental protection restrictions, and small payments. The electronicization of automobile insurance and compulsory traffic insurance is the most basic part. In fact, it can be seen from the above that RFID can actually cover the functions of ETC, but due to the different departments that formulate standards, there are currently two independent standard systems, which are very likely to be integrated in the future.
Some people may ask whether ETC can replace RFID? From the hardware level, I actually hope that RFID will replace ETC, although ETC has a higher coverage rate; of course, the premise is still that the two departments reach a consensus. At present, many cities in China have started pilot projects of RFID automobile electronic identification systems, and most ETC manufacturers have already involved in RFID electronic identification system technology.
