To circumvent restrictions, Huawei is reportedly developing domestic HBM memory.

The news pointed out that Huawei is accelerating the establishment of domestic production capabilities of high-bandwidth memory (HBM) in China.

The move could address limitations that have hampered the company's progress in artificial intelligence and high-performance computing (HPC).

It is reported that Huawei and its suppliers are promoting HBM2 memory technology, which is crucial for the artificial intelligence applications of Huawei's Ascend series processors.

According to sources, by investing in domestic HBM production, Huawei aims to ensure a stable supply chain of these important components and reduce its dependence on external suppliers.

Currently, the HBM industry is developing rapidly. Samsung, SK Hynix and others have increased their investment. In particular, SK Hynix directly announced an investment of US$1 billion to build advanced packaging facilities.

The vice president of SK Hynix once said, "The first 50 years of the semiconductor industry were mainly on the front end," that is, the design and manufacturing of the chip itself, "but the next 50 years will be about the back end," that is, packaging.
