On April 29, the United States further intensified its blockade of China and even did not want ASML to provide after-sales maintenance services for the lithography machines it had already sold to China. However, in ASML's view, doing so will not have much impact, at least it will basically not affect its revenue.
Although Peter Wennink has stepped down from the position of ASML CEO, he seems to be more outspoken.
He told the media: "We can provide services for them (the lithography machines sold to China), but we cannot use American technology, and the number of lithography systems affected is very limited. We can still provide installation services. For other lithography machines that have been sold, we can provide installation and maintenance services."
In 2023, ASML earned 5.62 billion euros in so-called installed base management sales revenue, including maintenance, adjustment and upgrade services for lithography machines.
In the fourth quarter of 2023, ASML sold a total of 70 lithography machines, of which mainland China contributed as much as 49%, an increase of 10 percentage points from the previous quarter.
Peter Wennink has previously made it clear: "There is nothing that prevents us from providing services for existing installed systems in China."
