Intel releases POS certification specifications to accelerate the release of smart retail innovation potential
January 17, 2023, Beijing - Driven by new consumption trends, the digital transformation of traditional retail is accelerating, driving the comprehensive development of the ecosystem from technology, systems, hardware, applications to services. In order to jointly promote the development and construction of the ecosystem, Intel and the Shenzhen Retail Intelligent Information Industry Association recently co-organized the 2023 Intel Smart Retail Excellence Sharing Conference with the theme of "Core Retail, Boundless Intelligence". At this conference, Intel and many big names from leading companies in China's smart retail industry shared the innovative achievements and technological progress of the Internet of Things and intelligent edge solutions in the field of smart retail. In addition, Intel has officially released the excellent POS certification specifications, and together with ecological partners, it will help the digital transformation process of physical stores, thereby promoting the overall development of the retail industry.
With the rapid development of cutting-edge technologies such as big data, edge computing, and artificial intelligence, the digital transformation of the retail industry has been accelerated. More and more retail companies have begun to introduce advanced technologies and solutions to accelerate the intelligence and digitalization of store operations, supply chain management, consumer insights, and other links, and gain benefits in areas such as cost reduction and efficiency improvement and product innovation.
Guo Wei, general manager of Intel's China IoT and Channel Data Center Division, said: "For smart retail, Intel and its partners use a powerful combination of software and hardware products and innovative technologies to help stores more efficiently connect various information and data, accelerate the development and deployment of edge applications, and dynamically adjust computing power according to application needs, thereby achieving unified management and data integration of products, stores, and IT infrastructure, ultimately helping companies save costs and improve operational efficiency.
”
At present, how to build smart retail stores with intelligent management, efficient operation and maintenance, and good consumer experience has become a key challenge facing the retail industry during its transformation. As the core equipment for store operations, POS machines are an important product form for Intel platforms to land in the retail industry and with partners. Today, POS machines not only need to meet all payment methods, but also take payment as the starting point and combine 5G, Internet of Things, big data and other technologies to derive a series of service scenarios such as consumer data collection, operation management, and financial services.
With the development of mobile communications and cloud technology and the change of payment methods, POS machines have undergone tremendous changes in technology platforms, operating systems, and application software, and have evolved into various forms such as handheld, mobile, self-service, and multi-screen for different scenarios in different industries such as hotels, restaurants, medical care, and entertainment. In this case, as an important interface for human-computer interaction in the field of smart retail, the future role of POS machines will no longer be limited to the single function of cashiering, but as the center of store intelligence, it will monitor and manage various smart devices such as advertising machines, smart shelves, smart shopping carts, and loss prevention monitoring equipment in real time, and integrate relevant data information such as security systems, customer flow analysis, and cashiering into a unified platform, using new computing, network, memory, and storage technologies to help break through data bottlenecks, so as to achieve data-driven, intelligent decision-making, and cost reduction and efficiency improvement. Intel is working with many ecological partners to provide a variety of innovative smart technologies and solutions, including smart POS machines, to help retailers accelerate their transformation towards the integration of smart stores.
Based on this, at the end of 2021, Intel, together with the China Chain Store Association and leading companies in the industry, jointly launched the Excellent POS Product Certification Initiative, hoping that through this certification program, the strength of the industry's leading companies will be gathered to create quality standards for the POS industry and provide high-quality products, innovative solutions and industry standards for the digital transformation of retail stores. After more than a year of precipitation and polishing, combined with market demand positioning, Intel further outlined the technical details of Excellent POS, and released the Excellent POS certification specifications based on this conference. Products that have obtained the Excellent POS certification will not only be introduced into the Intel channel ecosystem, but also increase cooperation opportunities with ODM, OEM, system integrators, software developers and operators by obtaining special sales resources, and promote the rapid deployment and promotion of products. At the same time, companies that join the Excellent POS Product Certification Initiative can also use Intel's huge ecological partner system to obtain more innovative technology sharing.
Intel continues to participate in the Chinese retail industry ecosystem and is helping more retail companies promote innovative applications through the "five super technology forces" consisting of ubiquitous computing, ubiquitous connectivity, infrastructure from cloud to edge, artificial intelligence, sensing and perception. Together with its ecosystem partners in the Chinese market, it is injecting strong momentum into the digital and intelligent transformation and upgrading of the retail industry.
