Intel and its ecosystem partners launch an excellent POS product certification initiative to help physical retail stores transform digitally
December 14, 2021, Shenzhen - The Intel Smart Retail Navigation Innovation and Sharing Conference with the theme of "Shared Core, Go Far" was successfully held today at Shenzhen Bay No. 1. At the meeting, Intel systematically introduced its innovative achievements and technological progress in the field of intelligent edge × retail, and shared solutions and excellent implementation cases in the field of smart retail with ecological partners. In addition, Intel also joined hands with the China Chain Store Association and representatives from leading Chinese retail industry companies such as Shiji Retail, Hisense, Zhongke Yingtai, EasyPass, Sundar, Kawada, Xinbu, Jifang, and Ruibao to jointly launch the "Excellent POS Product Certification Initiative".
Intel, industry associations and retail industry leaders jointly launch the "Excellent POS Product Certification Initiative"
Dr. Guo Wei, General Manager of Sales, Internet of Things Division, China, Intel Corporation, said: "For smart retail, Intel has a diverse product portfolio, innovative software tools and a strong ecosystem. Currently, Intel is gathering the top forces in the retail industry and working together with ecological partners to actively respond to the country's call for digital transformation of the retail industry, jointly resolve the difficulties encountered by China's retail industry in the process of digital transformation, and work together to promote China's retail industry into a new era of digitalization and intelligence."
The 14th Five-Year Plan clearly points out that it is necessary to promote the digital transformation of industries. Among them, deepening the digital transformation of the service industry, especially cultivating new growth points such as "new retail", has become an important part of accelerating digital development and promoting the construction of Digital China. This direction coincides with Intel's long-term focus on investment in the field of smart retail.
Since the new era, China's retail market has developed rapidly, and Chinese consumers have put forward higher requirements and expectations for the retail industry, especially offline stores. In physical stores, an important link is cashiering and settlement. In addition to the requirement for payment convenience, retailers in the smart retail environment need higher-quality cashier equipment and solutions to incorporate the cashiering and settlement links into the centralized management of stores, so as to improve the operational efficiency of physical retail stores and enhance consumers' consumption experience. However, the quality of various cashier equipment on the market varies. Although retail stores have added various digital equipment, some equipment has not yet achieved intelligent management and application, and the equipment is relatively independent, which makes it difficult for stores to connect information and data, and they cannot fully tap the value of data.
Dr. Guo Wei, General Manager of Sales for Intel's Internet of Things Division in China, delivered a keynote speech
In order to solve these problems, Intel, together with the Retail Industry Association and leading companies in the industry, jointly launched the "Excellent POS Product Certification Initiative". The initiative aims to create excellent standards for the POS industry, gather the strength of leading companies in the industry, provide high-quality certification strategy initiatives, and help the digital transformation of physical stores, thereby providing intelligent edge technology support for the full-time and full-domain business model in smart retail scenarios. Dr. Guo Wei, General Manager of Sales, Internet of Things Division, China, Peng Jianzhen, Secretary-General of the China Chain Store Association, Guan Dongyu, President of Shiji Retail, Su Yutao, General Manager of Hisense Smart Commercial, Liu Meixun, Chairman of Zhongke Yingtai, Xue Zhili, Chairman of EasyJet, Li Weimin, Chairman of Sunda Commercial, Li Weibin, General Manager of Kawada Technology, Wu Fulu, Chairman of Xinbu Technology, Li Hongming, Chairman of Jifang Industrial Control, and Liu Yongping, General Manager of Ruibao Zhilian, attended the launch ceremony and jointly launched the Excellent POS Product Certification Initiative.
Peng Jianzhen , Secretary General of the China Chain Store & Franchise Association , said: "The development prospects of smart retail cannot be underestimated. As more and more 'disruptive' innovative applications and solutions continue to emerge, we also deeply realize that the full realization of retail digitalization and intelligence still needs to overcome many challenges, and these challenges can only be resolved through the joint efforts of the entire industry and the entire ecosystem. The Excellent POS Product Certification Initiative initiated by Intel and top industry manufacturers has brought together the strength of the entire industry and will provide high-quality products, innovative solutions and industry standards for the digital transformation of retail stores, thereby truly realizing innovative changes in the retail industry and further accelerating the development of smart retail in China."
Intel has a series of powerful software and hardware product portfolios and innovative technologies for smart retail. Including Atom®, Core™, Xeon® and other processor families, FPGA, Movidius VPU and other inference acceleration products, which can meet the different workload requirements of various devices in stores, and can support complex application requirements such as artificial intelligence, image or video analysis. The OpenVINO™ toolkit can accelerate the development and deployment of computer vision in edge applications, helping stores to deploy video applications at a lower cost and more conveniently, and improve operational efficiency. With the help of Intel artificial intelligence technology, retail stores can more efficiently extract store information and data to make better business decisions. Workload integration can help various edge devices in stores dynamically adjust computing power deployment according to application requirements, thereby achieving unified management and data integration of products, stores, and IT infrastructure.
Intel Smart Retail Pilot Innovation Sharing Conference Roundtable Forum
At the same time, Intel is working with its ecological partners in the retail industry to bring together industry forces through industry initiatives to jointly provide retail users with efficient and intelligent retail integration solutions. In August 2019, Intel launched the Intel Open Retail Initiative (ORI), which aims to create an open source initiative for the retail industry, bring together industry forces, and work together to build an innovative retail store integration platform to help retail stores solve problems such as scale and growth. The "Excellent POS Product Certification Initiative" proposed today will further bring together the technical strength of China's top retail manufacturers, open up the upgrade pace of the cash register and settlement application scenario, and thus accelerate the digital and intelligent transformation of retail stores in all scenarios.
Intel believes that ubiquitous computing, cloud-to-edge infrastructure, ubiquitous connectivity, and artificial intelligence are the "four super technology forces" that shape the digital transformation of the industry. In the future, Intel will continue to promote innovation, exploration, and growth with the four super technology forces, and gather industry forces with industry initiatives including the "Excellent POS Product Certification Initiative" to create a new smart retail ecosystem. Together with ecological partners in the Chinese market, Intel will help the retail industry move towards a new era of digitalization and intelligence.
