According to Reuters, Huawei and Verizon, the largest telecommunications operator in the United States, have agreed to settle two lawsuits alleging patent infringement.
IT Home learned that Huawei's lawsuit against Verizon for patent infringement will be heard in Marshall, Texas on Wednesday local time. Late Sunday, Huawei and Verizon filed a joint motion in two U.S. courts to dismiss the two cases and Verizon's counterclaim.
Last February, Huawei announced that it had filed patent infringement lawsuits against Verizon in the Eastern and Western District Courts of Texas, requesting the court to find that Verizon had infringed 12 patents licensed by Huawei in the United States and to pay compensation. People familiar with the matter said that Huawei's claim will exceed $1 billion.
Huawei claimed that they had been negotiating with Verizon for a long time and provided Verizon with a detailed list of patents and factual evidence of Verizon's use of Huawei's patents, but the two parties were unable to reach an agreement on the licensing terms at the time.
It is said that over the past 20 years, Huawei has conducted extensive cross-licensing negotiations with major patent holders in the telecommunications industry and has signed more than 100 patent licensing agreements with major ICT manufacturers in the United States, Europe, Japan and South Korea.
Since 2015, Huawei has earned more than $1.4 billion in intellectual property revenue and has paid more than $6 billion in patent royalties for the legal use of other companies' patents, 80% of which was paid to American companies.
